The Admirals are staking their claim to being a contender in Divison II, that’s for sure.
They picked up a huge win over local rival Merrimack-Hollis Brookline-Derryfield at Skate 3 in Tyngsborough, Mass.
Souhegan wrestling did the same in Division II with a win over Hollis Brookline as part of a tri meet. Besides a big wrestling night, the Milford girls basketball team also got a win in a rare Wednesday night game.
Here’s the rundown, beginning with the ice:
BOYS HOCKEY
ALVIRNE-MILFORD 4,
MERRIMACK-HB-DERRYFIELD 2
The Admirals improved to 7-3 on the back of a hat-trick from senior saptain Braydon Atwood at Skate 3. With the win, the upstart Admirals move to 7-3-0 on the season and stake their claim to sole possession of fourth place in Division II as the calendar turns to February.
Atwood scored on the power play, at even strength, and shorthanded, earning the rare “Mario Lemieux” hat trick while Bryce Larco added a tally for the Admirals.
Assists on the night went to Ryan Ricard, Brandon Callahan, Landon Briand, Mason Tomkins and Larco.
Mason Komarek picked up the win in goal for Alvirne-Milford with 23 saves while James Brew fell to his former squad for the first time in his fourth matchup against the Admirals.
Caleb May and Colin Hamlin picked up goals for the WarHawks in the defeat. May’s goal came on a WarHawk powerplay, while Hamlin’s goal was a result of a loose rebound while the Warhawks had their net empty.
Alvirne-Milford will host Nashua South-Pelham on Saturday at 12:10 p.m. at Skate 3 while MHBDS will be at Conway Arena for a 3:40 p.m. matchup with Nashua North-Souhegan.
