North’s Smith continues his run with Throwers Meet win

NASHUA – Nashua High School North’s Darius Smith continues his push toward a possible state title in the shot put with a victory on Thursday in the Nashua South Throwers Meet.

Smith captured the shot put event with a heave of 53-1, while North’s Noah Pasterczyk came in second at 51-0 in the event held in the South Medium Gym.

In the girls event, the highest local finisher was South’s Nora Gautieri at 32-10.25. Exeter’s Lucille Bem was the winner at 34-4.75.

In the boys competition, South’s Ray Karuru rounded out the top five at 45-11.25 as Parker Wood of Prospect Mountain was third (50-2) and Barnaby Diehn fourth (49-9.5).

Five other locals were in the top 15. Alvirne’s Shawn Boudreau was seventh (44-8.75) while South’s Liam Gallagher took ninth (42-2.5) and North’s Zariel Cintron Arizmendi 10th at 42-0.5.

Merrimack’s Nicholas Franqui was 11th, and South’s Kayden Doubleday was 15th. The only other local in the top 20 was South’s Sawyer Penny (18th).

In the girls meet, Exeter’s Autumn Fabiano was second at 34-2, Concord’s Consuelo Bonco third at 33-5.75 and Bedford’s Carolyn Kemp was fourth at 32-11.75.

three other locals were in the top 10. South’s Chloe Cruz was seventh at 31-0.5, Emily Richard took eighth at 29-10.25, and Alvirne’s Bella Hatcher was 10th at 29-5.75.

Merrimack placed two in the top 20, as Lilly Anderson was 11th and Annabelle Cassetty was 16th. South’s Vanessa Ortiz Cuevas was the only other local in the top 20, finishing 17th.

Campbell’s Bridgette Hidalgo was 22nd.
