HS Roundup: Panthers back on track; Cards, Broncos,’Hawks win

There were a lot of winners on Tuesday night in local high school basketball action. Nashua South and Merrimack boys plus the Alvirne girls got back on track, Alvirne got its second straight boys win, both Hollis Brookline teams won, the list keeps going.

Here’s mostly good local news with, yes, some bad news sprinkled in:

BOYS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 92, SALEM 67

Josh Tripp and Josh Caruso drop 27 and 22 points respectively in the Panthers (6-3) win. Adding to the offense were Francisco Rodriguez Malagon (13 points) and Daniel Karavanic (11 points). South hosts Portsmouth on Friday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 62, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 42

The Cardinals improve to 5-4 after Tuesdays win. BG had an even attack with Connor McGowan (16 points), Eli Youseff (15 points), Andrew Steinbrueck (11 points) and Luca Fabrizio (10 points) making contributions. BG visits Exeter on Friday.

WINNACUNNET 68, NASHUA NORTH 46

The Titans (3-6) slump continues with a road loss to the Warriors. Alize Roi-Cortez scored 17 points and the Titans were close at the half, down 33-27, but the Warriors ramped up to a 53-33 lead after three.

North hosts Trinity on Friday.

MERRIMACK 75, CONCORD 60

Ryan Elliott dominated the paint and collected 23 points in the Tomahawks (5-3) rebound win over Concord. Mikey Flerra scored 11 points and Nate Johnson tallied 10. Merrimack visits Bedford on Friday.

ALVIRNE 74, TIMBERLANE 43

Sammy DeWitt knocks down 26 points for the Broncos (5-4) in front of a raucous crowd in Hudson. Gabe Conrow and Garrett Hall did well on the offensive end scoring 15 and 12 points respectively.

Alvirne visits Concord on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 65, JOHN STARK 47

After a home loss on Friday the Cavs (7-4) got their groove back when they hit the road and defeated the Generals. Alton Williams had a team high 18 points, Yarie Ramos chipped in 13 while Dylan Kelley and James Arthur added eight apiece.

HB hosts Souhegan on January 28.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SALEM 73, NASHUA SOUTH 32

The Panthers (4-5) lose their third straight game when they faced the Blue Devils on the road. Nicole DeJesus scored 17 points and Addie Borden had six. South visits Portsmouth on Friday.

ALVIRNE 62, TIMBERLANE 33

Courtney Anderson had a game high of 20 points and leads the Broncos (5-4) on the road against the Owls. Ella Hartson chipped in with 13 points.

Alvirne hosts Concord on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 56, JOHN STARK 42

Ana O’Donnell and Anika Carlson netted 14 points apiece for the Cavs (6-3). Samantha Disco had a nice night with 12 points.

HB visits Souhegan on January 28.
