HS Roundup: Cougar girls get second win; N-S skaters fall

Monday was a good night to be a Cougar.
Not only did the Campbell High School boys basketball team win, but so did the Cougar girls, on the road no less. Campbell was the only victorious school on a not-so-manic Monday, a light schedule indeed.
Let’s take a look:
GIRLS BASKETBALL
CAMPBELL 43, Somersworth 32
The Cougars got 15 points from Zoe Bourque and a dozen from Katie Fluet as they recovered nicely after getting just 18 points vs. Conant the other night to get their second win of the season, improving to 2-5.
Campbell was held to just six points in the second quarter but doubled that in the third to help take control.
Campbell will be at Belmont on Wednesday. Somersworth fell to 0-8.
FRANKLIN 60, WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 25
The visiting Cougars fell to 5-3 despite 12 points each from Kelsey Crouse and Maddy Labrecque, as they were hurt giving their hosts too many multiple shot opportunities.
WLC is at Farmington on Wednesday. Franklin is now 7-2.
BOYS BASKETBALL
FRANKLIN 55, WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 52
The Warriors played one of their closest games of the year — since the opener — but dropped their third straight and are now 3-5. WLC is t Farmington on Wednesday.
BOYS HOCKEY
BEDFORD 4, NASHUA NORTH-SOUHEGAN 0
The Saber-Titans are still searching for their first win (0-5) despite outshooting the Bulldogs 33-22.
Dylan O’Neil and Tony Venezia combined for 18 saves; Bedford’s final goal was an empty netter.
N-S will host Bishop Guertin for the first meeting between the two programs in a few years on Wednesday night at Conway Arena.
NO STUDENTS ALLOWED AT MERRIMACK AT PORTSMOUTH TONIGHT
It’s not quite clear if the ban, reported on SI.com, includes student fans of the visiting Merrimack team, but Portsmouth administrators reacted to Clipper students storming the court after PHS escaped with a 39-38 win over Alvirne last Friday night, breaking a directive not to.
The statement, issued late Monday:
“Storming the court or playing field is a direct violation of NHIAA and Portsmouth HS student expectations. Due to this act by students at this past Friday night boys basketball game against Alvirne, there shall be NO student fans permitted to attend this upcoming Tuesday night boys basketball game against Merrimack.”
The ban at Portsmouth will be lifted for a girls game there on Friday.
