HS Roundup: Bronco boys, girls enjoy good day at UNH

The University of New Hampshire’s Paul Sweet Oval was the place to be Sunday if you’re a high school track and field fan, and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua was the spot to be if you’re a swimming fan. Here’s how some things turned out at those locations:
BOYS & GIRLS TRACK
ALVIRNE SHINES IN MEET
The Bronco boys won a 10-team meet with 107 points, with Winnacunnet in second at 82. Bishop Guertin was the only other local, fifth at 38.
In the girls meet, the Broncos were second in a seven-team affair with 79 points, with Dover first at 91. BG was sixth (32).
For the Bronco boys, Shane Plumley won the 300 in 38.56, just ahead of teammate Jaden Taylor. Brent Dunning won the 1500 (4:41.94), ahead of teammate Jacob Plante in second and Ethan Schultz third. Alvirne’s Shawn Boudreau was first in the shot put at 42-11.25.
Bronco Sam Matson was second in the 3000.
BG was second in the 4×400 relay, while Jake Daly took second in the high jump, Carson Fischer was second in the 1,000 meter run and Christian Neal third in the shot put.
In the girls meet, Alvirne’s Anna Simpson took first in the 1500 (5:17.89) and Lilliana Schultz second. In fact, with Cadence Bice third and Zoe Burt fourth, the Bronos owned that event.
And, Olivia Cartagena (12:08.88) and Sophia Berube were one-two in the 3000, the only two competitors in the event.
The Bronco foursome of Anna Simpson, Jane Makoviy, Addison Tobin and Ava Martin won the 4×400 relay in 4:37.68.
For BG, Maddy McCarthy was third in the 55 dash and Gabby Gillette was third in the 300. Anna Sinclair took second in the 600.
MILFORD BOYS, MERRIMACK GIRLS SECOND
The Milford boys scored 70, edged out by Salem (71). Merrimack was third at 55, and Souhegan fifth at 37.
In the girls meet, the ‘Hawks were second at 41, well behind winner Portsmouth (122) while Souhegan was fourth (28) and Milford 10th.
In the boys meet, Avery Wilson won the 55 dash in 6.77 seconds. Logan Korthals won the 600 in 1:27.57 and was second in the 1500. Korthals, Wilson, Kenyon Sora and Will Whitley won the 4×400 relay (3:43.19). Whitley was second in the 1000.
Merrimack’s Luca Kabel won the 300 meter run and was second in the long jump. The ‘Hawks Nicholas Franqui was second in the shot put.
For Souhegan, Brody Smith won the high jump at 5-09.00 and was second in the 300 and the Sabers were second in the 4×160 relay.
In the girls meet, Abrielle Collier was second in the 55 hurdles and Melanie Bedard second in the 1000 and Lilly Anderson the same in the shot put with teammate Annabele Cassetty third.
Souhegan was second in the 4×160 relay and Milford took second in the 4×400.
The Sabers’ Anora Swanson won the long jump (14-11.50).
BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING
NORTH, BG COMPETE
In In the boys meet, Nashua North beat Dover 79-68 and Bishop Guertin 95-39 while Dover beat the Cards 76-45.
In the girls meet, Dover beat North 128-39, BG beat North 75-70 and Dover beat BG 126-44
For Guertin, standouts were Asher Griffin, Lana Ayotte, and divers Nicolette Carlton an Dominic Calvanese.
