Battle Begins: It’s South’s Bridge at UNH in co-ed track

Believe it or not, the Nashua North-South Winter Battle of the Bridge is underway, and the Panthers have struck first.

Now, most of the events are later this month, but North and South were in the same meet on Sunday, both finishing behind Pinkerton at the University of New Hampshire, but in the boys meet the Pantherers topped North in a close battle for second, 91-86, with Pinkerton tallying 101.

In the girls meet the Panthers also won by five, 103-98 to take second behind the Astros (126).

For South, Micah Allard was first in the 600 meter run in 1:30.02, and Evan Jean won the 3000 (10:46.89). The Panthers also won both relays. The 4×400 team of Allard, Sergio Lopez, Revin Olsen and Cam Brien triumphed (3:41.90) along with the 4×160 threesome of Leo Lopez, Ryan Jansen and Marcell Perry. (1:16.48)

The Titans were paced by wins by Gavin Suchecki in the 300 (37.86), Bunhour Chea in the 1000 (2:54.34) and Darius Smith in the shot put (53-08.25).

In the girls race,the Panthers were paced by Ryenne Gerogiana with a win in the high jump (4-10) with Penelope Rodriguez second; Alejandra Chavarin’s first in the long jump (15-04.75) with Panther Sarah Witta second and Nora Gautieri first in the shot put (33-00.00).

For North, Tiana Brown won the 55 dash (7.64), Jhanelle Thomas took the 300 (43.30), Rosalie Neveu won the 1000 (3:23.17)

North captured the 4×400 relay (Allison Frye, Charlotte Wilson, Thomas and Neveu in 4:32.05) as well as the 4×160 (Allison and Sarah Frye, Thomas and Brown in 1:27.91).

The next Battle of the Bridge event isn’t until Sunday, Jan. 26, with swimming at the Greater Nashua Boys & Girls Club.
