Hockey was the sport of the day around local high school circles, and a couple of locals came out on top.

It was a good day/night for Bishop Guertin and the Merrimack-Hollis Brookline-Derryfield tri-op, but a somewhat frustrating one for the Nashua co-ops and Alvirne Milford.

That plus a Nashua North win over BG in a quad meet, but some good Cardinal performances as well, plus a local swimm meet, and here’s a look at the new year’s first full Saturday:

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, PINKERTON 3

The Cardinals (2-2) had five different goal scorers – Sean Schultz, Jordan Delude, Jordan O’Hearn, Dom Trepanier and Gavin Santos(with an assist) in getting the win at Tri-Town Arena. Jack Stone, Mike Ponto, Bradyn MacLean and Noah Cordiero (two) had assists. The Cards overcame six penalties as well.

BG hosts Windham next Saturday.

HANOVER 5, NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 3

The Kings fell to 0-3 despite a good effort vs. the Bears, as they rallied to tie the game with 5:47 left on the second of two goals by Broden Landsteiner before Hanover scored two in the final three minutes, including an empty-netter. Andrew Byrne had the Kings other goal, while Brendon Doughty had an assist.

Noah Soule played well in goal for the Kings, who don’t play until they host Manchester next Saturday at Conway Arena.

BOW 4, NASHUA NORTH-SOUHEGAN 1

Conor Prunier had the lone goal for the Saber-Titans (0-3), while freshman Jared Gauthier had the assist for his first career high school point. Dylan O’Neil had 22 saves in goal for the locals, who host Trinity on Wednesday.

MHBDS 4, BISHOP BRADY-MERRIMACK VALLEY 2

Will Farrell had two goals while Blake Beaulieu had a goal and an assist as the WarHawks improved to 3-1 with the win at West Side Arena.

Max May had the locals’ other goal while Tyler Allen and Alex Gertz also had assists.

MHBDS is at Portsmouth-Newmarket on Wednesday.

OYSTER RIVER 7, ALVIRNE-MILFORD 0

Ari Scarbro made 26 saves but the Admirals fell to 1-2 as OR’s Braiden Moriarity had a hat trick at UNH’s Whittemore Center.

The Admirals host Timberlane at Skate 3 on Wednesday night.
