HS Roundup: Cavs top Nor’Easter local; South track rolls

Saturday means hockey, track and wrestling in the local high school world and wow were they wrestling and running. The two major events included a good day for Hollis Brookline at the Nor’Easter tourney they host, while the Nashua South boys and girls track teams enjoyed wins at UNH. On the ice, the Alvirne-Milford boys hockey team is proving its a force in Division II.

Here’s a sensational Saturday for locals:

WRESTLING

PINKERTON WINS HB NOR’EASTER; CAVS FOURTH

Hollis Brookline was the top local finisher with 202 points, finishing fourth overall in the 23-team event behind third place Goffstown 203.5), second place Plymouth (212.5) and winner Pinkerton (217.5).

Bishop Guertin was eighth (88) while Nashua North was 13th (33), Campbell 16th (28) and Nashua South 17th (27) and Merrimack 20th.

HB got four firsts with Caden Bruseo at 138 , Daniel Frixione at 150, Jacob Critchfield (157), and Victor Lomme (113). Gavin Turcotte (120) was second while Jameson Keller was third in the same weight class. Jacob Velez was fourth at 190. HB’s Guy Lafreniere was fifth at 120 as was Scout Crea at 126; sixths went to Phillip Berke (215), Daniel Hallas (190), and Gabriel McGrath (165).

Bishop Guertin got a second from Bishop Kearns at 285 and Jack Foster at 150, plus two fifths, James Algeo at 132 and Dominic Stamp at 138. North’s scorers were Kayden allerand-Kennaeally (150) and Owen Gagnon (120), both sixth. Campbell’s Nick Goulet was sixth at 126 pounds while for South Nicholas Samos was fifth at 165.

ALVIRNE DOES WELL AT LOWELL HOLIDAY

The Broncos were the top local at the prestigious George Bossi Tourney at the Tsongas Center, finishing 34th with Shayne Mackey (175) and Shawn Boudreau (215) getting fifths and Kylar Cox seventh at 106. Nashua South’s Ben Byrne was fifth at 150 while Milford’s Elijah Wales was eighth at 215. Some 68 schools competed.

MILFORD PLACES THREE AT TYNGSBORO

The Spartans were busy also at a tournament in Tyngsborough, Mass. with Kane Davis second at 120, Colton Schuster (126) and Devin Woods (138) both fourth.

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

NASHUA SOUTH BOYS, GIRLS WIN AT UNH

The Panther boys captured the morning meet with 99 points, ahead of Hollis Brookline (79) and third place Alvirne (70) with Souhegan (30) fifth).

The Panther girls totaled 70.33 points to top second place Hollis Brookline (66.33). Alvirne was fifth (34.33) while Souhegan was eighth (27).

South boys winners included Cam Patronick in the 1500 (4:33.15), the 4×400 relay team of Micah Allard, Revin Olsen, Matthew Motherway and Cam Brien(3:49.14); plus the 4×800 team of Allard, Motherway, Patronick and Brien (8:47.99). Also, Jeramiah Agbo took the high jump (5-07.00) and Ray Karuru won the shot put 45-04.50) ahead of teammate Liam Gallagher in second.

Marcell Perry was second in the 55 dash; Ryan Jansen took third in the 300. Nashua South’s 4×160 relay team of Diego Cabrera, Ryan Jansen and Perry were second. Tyler Benzekri was third in the high jump.

HB’s Sam Bruneau took first in the 55 dash (6.68) while Brady McCammack won the 55 hurdles in 8.51 and Jacob Hoesch the 600 (1:29.94). Andrew Desmarais was second in the 300 as was the 4×800 relay team of Pedro Souza, Thomas Howie, Ronan Finnegan and Jacob Hoesch. HB’s John Masiello was second in the high jump.

Alvirne’s Shane Plumley won the 300 (37.97); the 4×160 relay team of Lief Erickson, Joey Marcotte, Jayden Taylor and Shane Plumley was first in 1:174 and the Broncos were second in the 4×400 relay.

Marcotte was second in the 55 hurdles and Brett Dunning second in the 1000

Souhegan’s John Katsel was second in the long jump and Ryan Stone was third. Brody Smith was third in the 600.

In the girls meet, South’s Chloe Cruz (31-10.25) won the shot put ahead of teammate Nora Gautieri.

Panther Emma Millette was second in the 600 and the Panthers were second in the 4×800. Penelope Rodriguez was second in the high jump while Alejandra Chavarin was second in the long jump.

HB’s Grace Dow won the 55 hurdles (9.02) and was third in the 300. Molly Reardon was second in the 1000 and Mae Butler same in the 1500.

The Cavs took the 4×160 relay with Adrienne Thibault, Margaret Noble and Grace Dow (1:30.99) as well as the 4×800 (Audrie Green, Quinn Hardy, Molly Reardon and Mae Butler, 10:56.91). The foursome of Bridget Jones, Livia Ward, Latelyn Hawley and Paige Shirley were second in the 4×400.

For Souhegan, Ori Dart was second in the 300 and third in the 55 dash; Anora Swanson was third in the high jump.

Alvirne’s Anna Simpson won the 1500 (5:23.67); Ava Martin was third in the 1000. The Broncos were third in the 4×400 and Bella Hatcher took third in the shot put.

NORTH BOYS, GIRLS SECOND

The Titans were second in the UNH afternoon meet with 70 points, just behind first place Bedford (70).

The North girls, meanwhile, were third (44), behind second place Portsmouth (71) and winner Bedford (114).

Winners for the Titan boys included Luke Peters in the 55 dash (6.75) and he was second in the long jump (19-3.50); Darius Smith captured the shot put at 51-09.25 ahead of teammates Noah Pasterczyk (second) and Zariel Clinton Arizmendi (third).

Gavin Suchecki took second in the high jump (5-10) while Mason Dandeneau was third in the 300.

In the girls meet, North’s Jhanelle Thomas won the 55 dash in 7.48 seconds while Allison Frye captured the 300 (44.72).

Tiana Brown was second in the 600 while Allie Dandeneau was fourth in the long jump.

MILFORD BOYS SECOND AT PSU

In the morning meet at Plymouth State, the Spartans were second with 52 points behind Merrimack Valley (52). Avery Wilson was first in the 55 dash (6.70) while Logan Korthals won the 1000 meter run (2:43.97).

The 4×400 relay team of Korthals, Chase Paiva, Grant Skorupan and Will Whitley was first. The 4×200 relay team of Brendan Courtney, Marcus Hebert, Joshua Petttingell and Wilson was second.

In the girls meet, Milford was eighth; the 4×400 team of Catriona Carter, Rylee Coates, Isabella Cornaro and Grace Mucheru was second. Zoe Rick was second in the shot put.

BISHOP GUERTIN RELAY SECOND

In the afternoon Plymouth State meet, the Cardinal girls 4×800 relay team of Anna Fondakowski, Lyla Masson, Audrey Pylees and Anna Sinclair was second.

BOYS HOCKEY

ALVIRNE-MILFORD 8, ST. THOMAS 0

The Admirals are now 2-0 on the season with a resounding win at Skate 3.

Brandon Hanas had a hat trick while Cam Cook had two goals and single scores by Ryan Ricard and Mason Tomkins. Luc Pelletier led the way with four assists;Mason Komarek got the shutout in goal.
