It’s been a tough matchup for the Bishop Guertin High School boys and girls basketball teams.
That was the case for the fourth straight time on Friday night, as the Bulldogs swept the doubleheader between the two for the second straight year.
But there were some success stories locally on a reduced schedule, as the Milford girls won their second straight game to start the season, and the Souhegan boys won a tough road game at Lebanon to also stay unbeaten.
Here’s the Friday rundown as teams now will take a break before holiday tourneys late next week:
BOYS BASKETBALL
BEDFORD 67, BISHOP GUERTN 55
The Cards (1-2) had gotten to within 43-41 after three quarters but the Bulldogs pulled away in the final periods. Eli Youssef did what he could to keep BG alive with 23 points while Luca Fabrizio added 13. Logan O’Connell led Bedford (2-1) with 17.
SOUHEGAN 48, LEBANON 42
The visiting Sabers (3-0) held off a second half rally by the Raiders, but got 21 points from Wes Hickman while Drew Reagan added 10. Souhegan will face Nashua North in the Nashua Holiday Tournament next Friday.
PEMBROKE 70, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 68
The Cavs fell to 1-2 despite having three players in double figures. James Arthur led HB with 21 points while Alton Williams had 16 and Dylan Kelley had 14. Andrew Fitzgerald led the winners with 25. HB led 51-49 going into the final quarter but couldn’t hold on in a game that had tourney-type atmosphere.
CAMPBELL 60, HOPINTON 51
The 3-0 Cougars got a great game from Cayden DeLeon, as he had 26 points, five steals and six assists.
Jack Breton added 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks while Luke Delia had 12 points and five steals.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
BEDFORD 64, BISHOP GUERTIN 32
It was close early (7-6) before the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run to end the first quarter up 17-6 and then stormed to a 35-17 halftime lead.
Kayden Rioux had 18 points on six 3-pointers to lead the Cards (1-1) while Thalia Drapeau and Laura Marino each had six points. Katherine Allard led Bedford (3-0) with 17.
MILFORD 60, KINGSWOOD 30
The Spartans improved to 2-0 as they raced out to a 24-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in Wolfeboro.
Elliana Nassy led Milford with 15 points, while Avery Fuller and Shea Hansen each had 13. Lexi Bausha added eight and Claire Cote seven for the winners, who will tangle with Nashua South next Friday in the Nashua Holiday Tourney.
LEBANON 54, SOUHEGAN 29
Down two starters, the 0-3 Sabers were outscored 16-2 in the first quarter and never recovered.
Zofia Rosenfield led the locals with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Lanai Hickman and Kaden Merriam chipped in with five and four points, respectively.
HOPKINTON 52, CAMPBELL 21
The Cougars managed just six points in the first quarter and it was too much of an uphill climb as they fell to 0-3. Kayla Denwiddie led Campbell with nine points while Katie Fluet had six.
