HS Roundup: BG, Souhegan, Milford wrestlers get wins

It was a wild Wednesday in local high school action, as wrestling dominated the landscape with Bishop Guertin, Souhegan and Milford getting key Division II wins. It was also hockey opening day and we also have fantastic Nashua North co-ed unified basketball comeback to share, so put those reading glasses on and grab a look:

WRESTLING

BISHOP GUERTIN 43,MERRIMACK 30

WINNISQUAM 47, BG 33

The Cards had a much better dual meet than last week’s loss to Nashua South, losing only one match.

BG winners vs. the Tomahawks were Wesley Steinruck at 106 (pin), Austin Steinruck at 126 (17-0 technical fall), James Algeo at 132 (major decision 13-2), Dominic Stamp at 138 (pin), Finn Murphy at 144 (major decision 15-6), Jack Foster at 157 (pin), and Bishop Kearns at 285 (pin).

Merrimack got four forfeits and a pin by Amir Safa at 165.

Winners for BG in the Winnisquam match included Wes Steinruck, Lucas Wilson, Algeo, Murphy, Foster and Kearns.

SALEM 63, NASHUA SOUTH 17

The Panther wins included Ben Byrne at 150 (pin), Connor Whitman at 165 (technical fall 19-2), and Nick Samos at 175 (pin).

EXETER 57, NASHUA NORTH 13

Owen Gagnon (pin) at 120, Sebastian Ochoa (17-5 major decision) at 126, and Kayden Vallerand-Kennaeally (12-8 decision) at 150 got the wins for North.

SOUHEGAN 54, ALVIRNE 30

The Sabers dominated the middle weights with seven straight wins (four by forfeit) to grab the dual meet win over an injury-riddled Broncos team.

Souhegan winners in that stretch were Landon Carson at 132 (pin), Cole Brandt at 144 (pin) and Chase Knuckles at 157 (pin). Other Saber winners were Seamus Wellen at 285 (pin).

Alvirne still had a good night with wins by Kylar Cox at 106 (pin), Timothy Malley at 120 (pin), Shayne Mackey at 175 (pin) and Quintin Tetreault at 190 (pin).

MILFORD 58, MANCHESTER WEST 22

The Spartans got wins from Kiernan Lordan at 120 (pin), Maz Hammerstrom at 126 (pin), Calix Lajoie at 132 (pin), Cameron Stickney at 138 (pin), Phillip Wright at 150 (pin), Noah Kittredge at 175 (technical fall 16-0), Nathanael Post at 190 (pin), Elijah Wales at 215 (technical fall 21-3) and Brandon Leeman at 285 (pin).

BOYS HOCKEY

TRINTIY 6, NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 0

The Kings came out flat at JFK Coliseum in their season opener, falling behind 3-0 in the first period and giving up three more second period goals.

Noah Soule and Ethan Robinson combined for 21 saves. The Kings host Merrimack-Hollis Brookline-Derryfield on Saturday at Conway Arena.

CO-ED UNIFIED BASKETBALL

NASHUA NORTH 30, DOVER 29

The Titans overcame a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter led by Jaiden Figeroa’s 14 points in the final four minutes – including the game-winning hoop with seven seconds left.

The freshman backcourt duo of Rosie Clark and Natalie Bryant also played well to keep the game within reach.
