HS Roundup: Panthers now 2-0; tough night for Titans

If you’re looking for offense, then look no further than the Nashua High School South boys basketball team.

The Panthers have scored 155 points in two games as they are now 2-0 on the season as a host of games were played on Monday night as many Division I schools want to wrap up the start of the regular season before the start of vacation on Friday. Here’s a look at a busy Nonday that included first wins for some, and also the start of the boys ice hockey season:

BOYS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 81, PINKERTON 75

Daniel Karavanic and Josh Tripp had phenomenal performances collecting 29 and 24 points respectively leading the Panthers over the Astros. Josh Caruso put 16 points in the box score to add to the offense.

The Astros hung tough as South, which is at Timberlane on Thursday, trailed 53-51 entering the final quarter and led just 77-75 with 10.5 seconds left.

South visits Timberlane on Thursday.

BEDFORD 84, NASHUA NORTH 39

The Titans were outmatched in their first road game of the season. Robinson Rodriguez and Luke Peters scored 11 and 10 points respectively.

North (0-2) will seek its first win when it hosts Dover on Thursday.

MERRIMACK 66, TIMBERLANE 44

The Tomahawks (1-1) regrouped after a tough triple OT opening night loss to take down the Owls. Nate Johnson collected 22 points with Noah Morrison and Ryan Elliott each scored 10. Merrimack hosts Spaulding on Thursday.

ALVIRNE 51, GOFFSTOWN 49

Sammy DeWitt had the hot hand scoring 30 points in the 2-0 Broncos close win over the Grizzlies. Andrew Deely tallied 12 points and Garrett Hall added six. Alvirne visits Keene on Thursday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BEDFORD 51, NASHUA NORTH 23

Lily Small had a game high 15 points in the Titans loss to the Bulldogs.

North, which played well defensively despite the loss, visits Dover on Thursday.

TIMBERLANE 48, MERRIMACK 27

The Tomahawks were outpaced by the Owls on Monday night. Meghan McCarthy scored 10 points and Avary Cruz had five. Merrimack visits Spaulding on Thursday.

NEWPORT 59, CAMPBELL 14

Zoe Bourque and Kayla Denwiddie each scored four points in the loss. Campbell hosts Hopkinton on Friday.

BOYS HOCKEY

MERRIMACK-HB-DERRYFIELD 3, GOFFSTOWN 2

James Brew was a wall in net collecting 39 saves in Mondays win. Caleb May (goal), Blake Beaulieu (goal), Will Farrell (goal), Alex Gertz (two assists) and Alex May (assist) led the offense, as all of MHBD’s goals were in the second period.

Merrimack-HB-Derryfield visits Winnacunnet on Thursday.
