One of the best high school rivalries in New Hampshire will be on display in the Division I football championship game next Saturday at Exeter’s Bill Ball Stadium.
Yes, it will be Pinkerton and Londonderry playing for the title. The No. 4, 9-2 Astros took care of their end on Friday night by knocking off top seed Bedford 27-13 in one semifinal and then Saturday No. 3 Londonderry, on a last second 31-yard field goal by Blake Thompson, edged No. 2 Exeter 31-28 after the Blue Hawks (10-1) had rallied from a 21-0 deficit.
Sam Ogden got the Lancers (8-2, 8-3 overall) on the board 7-0 and they added two more scores before Exeter’s Daniel Batstone’s 2 yard run got the home team on the board, 21-7 at the half. Batstone added a 3-yard TD to make it 21-14 with 9:24 left in the third quarter, and he made it three TDs on the day with a 1-yard fourth down run to help tie things at 21 heading into the fourth quarter.
Ogden put Londonderry ahead with a 3-yard run with 6:56 to play but the Blue Hawks teid it up with 1:23 to play on a Michael Caron 10-yard TD to Sam Dulac.
But with 3.3 seconds left, the Lancers lined up for their 31-yard attempt and it was good. As a result they’ll try to avenge a 38-15 loss to the Astros back on Sept. 28.
It will be Londonderry’s fourth straight final, fifth in six years and Pinkerton’s first since 2018. The Lancers had lost to Bedford the last two years after capturing titles in 2019 and 2021.
