Bishop Guertin’s Matt Giardina and Nashua North’s Laura White proved they are two of the top high school cross country runners in New England. And certainly in this area.

Giardina finished sixth in the 89th New England Cross Country Championships held at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn. In the girls race, White finished 13th.

Giardina came in at 15:39, but the top New Hampshire finisher was his rival, Sullivan Sturtz from Keene (15:32).

White, meanwhile, came in with a time of 18:35. Bedford’s Mikita Barry was the top New Hampshire finisher, coming in third in 18:16.

Nashua South had a good showing as well. Daniel Byrne was 32nd in 16:19.00, while Camden Brien was 58th in 16:38.

BG also had the Fischers, Carson and Ethan, come in 41 and 42 respectively in 16:25 and 16:28. Sam Prescott came in 62nd.

Two other top local girls competed. Bishop Guertin’s Anna Fondakowski was 91st (20:19) while Souhegan’s Samantha Swanbon was 145th (20:57).
