Some seasons – and in some cases, an era – came to an end on Saturday.
And, some got extended.
Welcome to the world of local high school tournaments, and let’s see who are still playing:
BOYS SOCCER
DIVISION I QUARTERFINALS
NO. 6 KEENE 1, NO. 14 NASHUA NORTH 0
The Titans’ old problem returned on Saturday at Keene’s Scripture Field as they could not score, but had a chance early when Junior Reyes hit the post.
“That really could’ve been a real game changer and shifted the momentum,” North coach Jeremy Zelanes said.
Especially as Keene senior Brynn Blonshine scored 4:20 into the game, the only score by either team although the Titans pushed to tie the game.
“(Keene) has been a strong defensive game all season, which made it tough for us to find the back of the net,” Zelanes said. “I have to give the boys a lot of credit for their hard work in the postseason, but in soccery, you have to finish your chances and we just couldn’t make it happen, unfortunately.” North’s season ends at 6-8-4
NO. 4 HANOVER 1, MERRIMACK 0 (OT)
Another one-goal defeat for an area team, as the Tomahawks’ otherwise successful season ends at 10-5-3 in the toughest of ways as the Bears scored on a penalty kick due to a handball call in the five minute mark of sudden death overtime.
‘Hawks goalie Amir Omeragic played well with five saves, getting help from the back line in front of him: Nate Johnson, Dave Sharma, Isaah Traverso and Brody Towele.
Hanover (13-3-1) moves on to face Bedford in the semifinals on Wednesday in Manchester.
DIVISION II QUARTERFINALS
NO. 1 CAMPBELL 3, NO. X BOW 2
It was no cakewalk for the Cougars (15-1-1) at home as they needed two goals by senior sensation Luke Delia, including the game-winner that broke a 2-2 tie in the second half, to advance. Jack Larose and Zach Dean had assists while Larose scored the game’s first goal on a free kick.
Campbell will face No. 5 Lebanon in the semifinals Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at Exeter’s Bill Ball Stadium.
NO. 3 MILFORD 2, NO. 6 COE-BROWN 1
Avery Wilson scored both Spartan goals in the last 15 minutes, with Vincent Arsenov assisting the game-winner.
Wilson’s goals came on a penalty kick and a header. The Spartans (13-2-2) now are set to face No. 2 Oyster River in the semifinals at Exeter at 4 p.m.
NO.2 OYSTER RIVER 1, NO. 7 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0
Unfortunately for the Cavaliers (9-7-2), their season ends at Durham for the second straight year. They were the third area boys soccer team to fall 1-0 on Saturday.
