HS Tourney Roundup: HB girls soccer, Milford volleyball reach semis

The ups and downs of the high school tournament season continued on Friday. It was, as expected, up for the Hollis Brookline girls soccer team and the Milford girls volleyball team, but down for the Souhegan and Campbell girls volleyball teams.
Here’s a look:
GIRLS SOCCER
DIVISION II QUARTERFINALS
NO. 1 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 5, NO. 9 PEMBROKE 0.
The Cavs are now 17-0, as they got two goals and an assist from McKenna Maguire as well as Maleigh Kreick. Kai Swart played well at midfield with a goal and an assist, while Kiera King andLil Bouchard each had an assist.
HB will take on No. 4 Coe Brown in the semis on Monday at Exeter’s Bill Ball Stadium at 6:15 p.m. It’s a rematch of last year’s title game.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
DIVISION II QUARTERFINALS
NO. 3 MILFORD 3, NO. 11 LACONIA 1
The Spartans punched their ticket to the Division II semis, improving to 16-2.
Milford wil take on No. 2 Coe-Brown (18-1) at Pinkerton Academy on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The two teams did not meet in the regular season.
NO. 4 OYSTER RIVER 3, NO. 5 SOUHEGAN 0
The Sabers, who were in the semis last year, fell one round short this time as their season ends at 14-6.
NO. 2 COE-BROWN 3, NO. 7 CAMPBELL 1
The Cougars, like Souhegan, were in the semis a year ago but not this time as the Bears proved to be too strong.
Campbell ends its season at 11-7.
TODAY’S GAMES
It’s a busy Saturday, with the biggest game being No. 1 Hollis Brookine looking for its first Division II field hockey title, taking on two-time defending champ No. 3 John Stark at 7 p.m. at Bedford High School’s Bulldog Stadium.
The day starts with the Division I volleyball quarters as upstart No. 12 Concord hopes to get another upset at No. 4 Bishop Guertin at 12 p.m. No. 9 Merrimack will try to tackle the four-time defending champion Bedford Bulldogs at BHS at 6 p.m.No. 7 Hollis Brookline heads to face No. 2 Goffstown.
It’s also a big soccer day. In the Division I quarterfinals, No. 14 Nashua North hopes to get another upset at No. 6 Keene at 12 p.m., and No. 5 Merrimack heads to face No. 4 Hanover at 3 p.m.
In Division II, three local teams will be in quarterfinal action as top seed Campbell hosts Bow at 3 p.m. in Litchfield. No. 7 Hollis Brookline has a quarterfinal rematch in Durham vs. No. 2 Oyster River, while No. 3 Milford hosts Coe-Brown at 5 p.m.
Also, in cross country, Bishop Guertin will try to win the overall boys state title as local cross country boys and girls teams and qualified runners compete in the Meet of Champions at Alvirne High School at 2:30 p.m.
