If you like high school girls volleyball, this is your time.
The Division II state tournament opens up on Wednesday and the Division I event starts Thursday, and the odds are a local team will be playing for a state title come a week from Saturday.
There are that many good teams in the area, at least a couple who may end up facing each other.
Here’s a look at how the pairings have played out:
DIVISION I
On Thursday, there is one all-local matchup with No. 10 Nashua North (10-8) at No. 7 Hollis Brookline at 6 p.m. (times are subject to change; check with schools). The Cavs, who are seeking to get to their fifth straight finals, did not face the Titans during the season.
Three other locals will be in action. The highest seeded area team is No. 4 Bishop Guertin (14-4), who will host Portsmouth on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Cards beat Portsmouth 3-0 to open the season.
Nashua South had its best regular season since its title year of 2019, finishing 13-5, good for the fifth seed and will host No. 12 Concord (8-10). They beat the Tide 3-1 during the season and if they and Bishop Guertin win, South will face BG Saturday at the Colligadome.
Finally in local Division I, Merrimack, back in the tourney after an eight-year absence, is seeded ninth (12-6) and will head to face No. 8 Windham (12-6) at 5 p.m. The Tomahawks bowed to the Jaguars just last week, 3-1.
After Saturday’s quarters, the semis are Thursday, Nov. 7 at Pinkerton with the finals on Saturday, Nov. 9.
DIVISION II
The area’s three teams in this division will all be playing on Wednesday, including No. 3 Milford (14-2), which is set to host No. 14 St. Thomas (8-8). The two teams did not meet.
No. 5 Souhegan, which reached the semis last year, starts its quest to get back there at home vs. No. 12 Plymouth (9-7) and No. 7 Campbell (10-6), which made the semis last year, will host No. 10 Gilford (9-7). They beat Gilford 3-1 back on Sept. 16 while the Sabers beat the Bobcats 3-0 early this month.
The quarterfinals will be on Friday at the homes of the higher seeds; the semis are on Nov. 6 and finals Nov. 9, both at Pinkerton.
