Ready for a Battle of the Bridge rematch?

That’s what will take place tonight at 6 p.m. at Souhegan High School’s Calvetti Field in Amherst when the No. 8 Nashua North girls soccer team (9-6-1) hosts No. 9 Nashua South (7-6-3) in the Division I tournament preliminary round.

The rivalry just gives a huge game even more of a spark.

“It’s always a different level of energy when North and South play,” Panthers coach Curt Dutilley said, “which makes the event even more fun.”

“We’re thrilled about the challenge and excitement this matchup brings,” Titans coach Jacqueline Thompson said. “Competing against a local rival adds an extra layer of energy.”

And the tournament will stay all-city in the next round with the winner facing top seed Bishop Guertin (14-1-1) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 2 p.m. at Rivier University’s Merrill Field. Remember, Stellos Stadium has been closed since early this month for safety reasons while it awaits replacement of the worn field turf.

Also tonight, in Division II field hockey, the No. 1 Hollis Brookline Cavaliers (16-1) will try to avenge their only loss vs. No. 4 Bow (13-3-1) in the semifinals at Exeter’s Bill Ball Stadium.

Girls soccer tourneys in Division II and III are also underway today involving locals.

The boys soccer tourneys begin on Wednesday, with Nashua North and South on the road in Division I and Merrimack at home. In Division II, top seed Campbell and No. 3 Milford have byes, while No. 7 Hollis Brookline will be home and No. 11 Souhegan will be on the road.

Here’s a look at the soccer/field hockey events:

GIRLS SOCCER

When they last met at Stellos Stadium, the Panthers pulled out a 1-0 win in the last minute on Ava Kopicko’s header off a corner kick. Kopicko is a big key for South while Allison and Sarah Frye are huge catalysts for North.

“It’s always a challenge to beat a good team twice,” Dutilley said. “North has exceptional talent at all four levels of the field. We will need to play our best game to move on to the next round.”

Thompson said the rivalry always seems to prevent teams playing the way they expect.

“Historically, we’ve sometimes struggled to keep our focus on our game plan, allowing the rivalry to affect our mental game,” she said. “It’s crucial for us to treat this match like any other opponent and not let the intensity of the rivalry distract us.”

Another key may be the fact the Titans have been ravaged by injuries and may be missing some key players. But Thompson expects “an electrifying game.”

“We have had great preparation leading up to the game,” Dutilley said. “Now it’s time to go out and play to the level this game demands.”

“We’re looking forward,” Thompson said, “to bringing the community together and make this a memorable experience for everyone.”

In Division II, there are twogames involving locals: No. 11 Souhegan (5-6-5) at No. 6 Kingswood (6-4-6) at 5:30 p.m. and No. 10 Milford (4-5-7) at No. 7 Merrimack Valley (6-5-5) at 4 p.m. Those two teams played a 0-0 tie earlier this season, while Souhegan and Kingswood did not play.

With a win, Souhegan would draw No. 3 John Stark on the road in the next round while Milford would go to No. 2 Bow. If they keep winning, both locals could meet in next Monday’s semifinals at Exeter.

Finally, in Division III, No. 6 Campbell (12-2-2) opens the tourney today at home at 3 p.m. vs. No. 11 Derryfield (5-6-3). If the Cougars win, they would either go to No.3 St. Thomas of Dover or host No. 14 Prospect Mountain on Saturday in the quarterfinals. The Cougars did not play St. Thomas but beat Prospect Mountain 3-0.

BOYS SOCCER

Wednesday is the day, and No. 9 Nashua South (7-5-4) will be at No. 8 Pinkerton (8-4-4) at 3 p.m. with the winner facing No. 1 Bedford (14-0-2) on Saturday in the quarterfinals. South and Pinkerton played a scoreless tie on Oct. 17.

Nashua North, meanwhile, won its last regular season game to get in as the 14th seed (5-7-4) and will be at No. 3 Londonderry (11-2-3). The Titans fell to the Lancers 3-1 back on Sept. 17. The winner faces either No. 6 Keene or No. 11 Manchester Central on Saturday.

The one Division I team playing at home is No. 5 Merrimack (9-4-3) vs. No. 12 Windham (6-7-3). The two teams did not meet during the regular season. The winner faces the winner of No. 4 Hanover vs. No. 13 Salem. The ‘Hawks lost 4-1 to Hanover and did not play Salem.

In Divison II, Campbell, which moved up from Division III after winning the title last fall, earned the top seed with a 14-1-1 record and the first round bye that goes with it. The Cougars will wait until Saturday to face either No. 8 Merrimack Valley or No. 9 Bow in the quarterfinals.

No. 3 Milford (12-2-2) also has a bye and will take on either rival No. 11 Souhegan (4-6-6) or No. 6 Coe-Brown (8-6-2). Milford beat Souhegan 5-1 and CB 2-1 during the regular season.

Two other local teams are playing on Wednesday. No. 7 Hollis Brookline (8-6-2) will host No. 10 Kennett (6-6-4) at 3 p.m. The winner goes to No. 2 Oyster River (14-2), which has a bye. The Cavs lost to the Bobcats 3-1 on Oct. 1.

Finally, in Division IV, No. 11 Wilton-Lyndeborough (6-6-4) is at No. 6 Hindale (8-4-4) at 3 p.m. The teams just played last Thursday to a scoreless tie and also had a 1-1 tie on Oct. 9.
