HS Roundup: Cards, Cavs get top seeds in girls soccer

Two of the best high school girls soccer teams in the area finished strong.

Both Bishop Guertin and Hollis Brookline finished their regular seasons on Thursday as the top seeds in Division I and II, respectively, thanks to their season finale wins.

Nashua North and South also finished the regular season with wins, giving both winning records as everyone gets ready for the state tournament next week. That plus some volleyball results highlight the day and evening Thursday:

GIRLS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 2, GOFFSTOWN 0

Zoe Hortnon Sousa and Kareena Sondhi scored for BG, which finishes 14-1-1 atop Division I. Emerson Brown and Ava Suech had assists, while keeper Jess LaCroix earned the shutout with defensive help from Paige Gabriel,Ava Borecki, Hadley Comeau, and Meghan Hartshorn.

BG will get a first round bye and be in action next Friday in the quarterfinals.

NASHUA NORTH 2, TIMBERLANE 1

The Titans got two goals from Allison Frye in Plaistow to finish the regular season at 9-6-1. They’ll await the tourney pairings on Monday to see where and when they play in the Division I prelims on Tuesday.

NASHUA SOUTH 5, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0

The Panthers finsished the regular season with a winning record (7-6-3) thanks to two goals by Natalee Thomas, plus single scores each by Ava Kopicko, Lily Stutz, and Abbey Herbert.

They’ll await the tourney pairings on Monday to see where and when they play in the Division I prelims on Tuesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2, CONVAL 1

The Cavaliers survived their biggest challenge of the regular season in Peterborough, finishing 16-0 with their 35th straight win. McKenna Maguire scored twice, while Rosalie DeSantis had an assist. Maya Blackman had three saves in goal.

The Cavs will have a first round bye and be in action at home next in the quarterfinals next Friday.

BOYS SOCCER

NASHUA SOUTH 2, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0

The Panthers wrapped up the regualar season at 7-5-4 and will await the pairings to start the Division I postseason next Wednesday.

GOFFSTOWN 1, BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cardinals, as a result of the loss, may be hard pressed to make the Division I tourney, finishing 0-5-6 over their last 11 games for a 3-7-6 final tally. We’ll know with the Monday pairings. Beau Baughter played well in goal for BG.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, ALVIRNE 0

The Cardinals finished 14-4 thanks to their sixth straight win, while the Broncos tough season ends at 0-16.

Outside hitters Akira Coravos and Allison Marino, right side hitter Caitlin Harrington, and libero Veronica Gomez all played well. The Cards will likely be in action next Thursday in the first round of the Division I tourney.

BEDFORD 3, NASHHUA NORTH 0

The four time defending champion Bulldogs finished another unbeaten season (18-0), although the Titans battled. North finishes at 10-8 and will be in tourney action next Thursday, likely on the road.
