HS Roundup: Big wins for North soccer, North and South volleyball

Welcome to Big Win Wednesday.

The Nashua North boys soccer team kept its tourney hopes alive, snapping a four-game winless streak. Meanwhile, Nashua South girls volleyball ruined Pinkerton’s Senior Night by snapping the Astros’ nine-match win streak in a battle of Division I contenders; Nashua North girls volleyball reached the 10-win plateau, and Souhegan avenged an earlier loss to Milford.

Here’s a look:

BOYS SOCCER

NASHUA NORTH 1, TIMBERLANE 0

Aidan Valcourt’s fifth goal of the season was the difference for the Titans in a crucial win, coming after sustained pressure.

The defensive unit of Patrick Zelanes, Brady Martin, Jordan Ollivierra and Ryan Mamos put in a stellar performance in front of keeper Tyler Byrne who was outstanding with 12 critical saves to earn the shutout.

North concludes its regular season at 5-7-4, and is in a logjam around the 15th and final tourney spot.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 3, PINKERTON 1

The Panthers snapped the Astros’ nine-match win streak, rallying to win three straight sets, 25-21, 27-25, 25-18 after losing the first one 25-18.

Mia Suljic had a big night with 19 kills and seven digs. Molly Lecklider added 13 kills, nine digs and two aces for another great night. Hayleigh Hicks (seven kills, six blocks) and Joelle Primo (eight kills, five blocks) were among those instrumental in the win as well.

Now 13-4, South wraps up the regular season home on Friday vs. Windham.

NASHUA NORTH 3, ALVIRNE 0

The Titans clinched a winning season, getting victory No. 10 on a special night for seniors Taylor Joyal and Johanna Desfosses. The Titans also enjoyed great hitting by Ruby Zeman and Amaya Gordon.

Alvirne will try to avoid a winless season tonight at home vs. Bishop Guertin.

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, SPAULDING 0

The Cards moved to 13-4 with a 25-7, 25-14, 25-15 sweep, led by setter Brooke Partridge, outside hitters Akira Coravos and Allison Marino, plus libero Veronica Gomez.

Winners of five straight, the Cards wrap up the regular season tonight at Alvirne.

WINDHAM 3, MERRIMACK 1

The Tomahawks dropped the last two sets, 25-23, 25-17 after splitting the first two, 20-25, 26-24, to fall to 12-5.

Amelia Walker had a whopping 22 kills, while Rachel Flett added 10 kills and Leah Monroe, five. Noor Eldeib had six kills, 30 assists and three digs, while Sofia DeGrazia (nine digs) and Jordyn McLaughlin (six digs) were keys for the ‘Hawks as well.

Merrimack wraps up one of its best regular seasons in years on Friday vs. Goffstown.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, TIMBERLANE 0

The Cavs moved to 12-5 with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 sweep of the Owls. HB will wrap up its regular season with its Senior Night vs. Londonderry on Friday.

SOUHEGAN 3, MILFORD 0

The Sabers (11-4) avenged an earlier five-set loss to the rival Spartans in a hard fought 26-24, 25-14, 28-26 sweep, snapping an eight-match Milford win streak.

That despite the efforts of Milford’s Savannah Watson (seven kills, 14 digs, one ace) and Beth Brooks (seven kills, eight digs,one ace).

Others who played well for Milford included Amelia Hebert (six kills, six digs, two stuff blocks), Abby Krulis (six kills, seven digs, three aces), Piper Greenhalgh (17 digs, two aces) and Kassie Cupin (one ace, 18 assists, six digs).

Now 13-2, Milford wraps up the regular season Friday at Manchester West while the Sabers host Winnisquam.
