HS Roundup: BG girls soccer in scoreless tie, field hockey bows

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Oct 15, 2024

It wasn’t the best of days Monday to be a Cardinal. But not the worst, either.

BG didn’t have any wins in two girls sports contests, but managed a tie. Here’s a look:

GIRLS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 0, TIMBERLANE 0

Guertin’s unbeaten streak extended to 12 games while Jess LaCroix had eight saves in goal at Rivier’s Merrill Field. However, the team’s win streak, which reached 11, is over.

Now 11-1-1, BG will face Nashua South today at 4 p.m. While it’s BG’s home game, it will be played at South’s upper grass field.

FIELD HOCKEY

PINKERTON 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

It’s been a tough week for the Cards (10-4-1), who dropped their third in a row as the Astros’ Jaelyn Crossman scored twice in the third quarter to break what was a 1-1 halftime tie in Derry. Maddie Harrington scored BG’s lone goal.

Pinkerton is now 11-3-1, unbeaten in its last eight games. BG will wrap up the regular season Wednesday vs. Londonderry at Rivier’s Merrill Field.

TODAY’S KEY EVENTS

Besides the South-BG girls soccer game, there is a big local Division II boys soccer game at Milford as Campbell (10-1-1) will try to avenge their only loss of the season against the 9-1-2 Spartans.

Milford tied ConVal 1-1 last Thursday while Campbell beat John Stark 6-0 thanks to three Luke Delia goals, two from Nate Roche and one from defender Jack Breton.

Also today are the NHIAA Division I and II golf team championships, which also serves as a qualifier for this Saturday’s individual divisional tourneys.

There is just one local team competing today, that being Souhegan in Division II at Windham CC. The Sabers finished with a 20-6 mark, coming off two straight Division III titles. The other local teams in both divisions will send two golfers each to compete in the individual qualifier.

The Division I event is at Canterbury Woods CC. Saturday’s Individual Championships are at Beaver Meadow in Concord.
