HS Roundup: North girls, South boys cross Bridge running

It’s not the usual week for local high school sports, thus Tuesday’s tri-meet between Nashua North, South, Bishop Guertin and Alvirne was not your typical meet.

It was the Battle of the Bridge.

The South boys outscored North while the Titan girls did the same thing. That, with the soccer results of the day, left South with a 3-2-2 lead in the Battle standings.

Of course, other games were played Tuesday as well, so here you go:

CROSS COUNTRY

NORTH GIRLS, SOUTH BOYS WIN

The Panthers scored 15 to capture the quad meet at Mines Falls, with Alvirne (50) second, North (93) third and Bishop Guertin (104) fourth.

Meanwhile the North girls totaled 30 points, ahead of Bishop Guertin (51), Alvirne (53) and South (78).

South’s Ryan Duvarney defeated all runners with a time of 17:03.6 in the boys race. Camdon Brien and Daniel Byrne finished second and third respectively. Representing Alvirne were Brent Dunning (eighth), Ethan Schultz (10th) and Ashton Rowe (11th). Owen Gagnon (18th), Bunhour Chea (23rd) and Jack Desjardins (26th) paced the Titans. Jack Mello (25th), William Howell (27th) and Theodore Bond (32nd) paced the Cardinals.

On the girls side North’s Laura White had a time of 19:53.5 to win the race. The Titans finished out the podium with Rosalie Neveu (second) and Charlotte Wilson (third).

South’s best finishers were Katie Perry (fourth), Kiera Fischer (ninth) and Jada Buckmire (19th). Shannon Forsyth (fifth), Anna Fondakowsi (sixth) and Lyla Masson (seventh) all had top 10 finishes for the Cardinals.

The Broncos Ava Martin finished 10th, Sophia Berube was 11th and Olivia Cartagena was 13th.

BOYS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 1, MERRIMACK 1

The Cardinals (3-2-2) and Tomahawks (4-2-2) walk away from their match with a tie. Collin Mills scored at the top of the box into the top corner for BG’s goal. Nate Johnson scored on a free kick to tie the game up in the last minute of regulation.

BG hosts Windham on Thursday and Merrimack visits Hanover on Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, PLYMOUTH 0

Rosalie DeSantis paced the Cavs (7-0) with three goals in their shutout win. Marleigh Kreick (two goals), McKenna Maguire (goal, two assists), Lily Bouchard (goal), Kai Swart (goal), Molly Reardon (goal), Sam Disco (assist) and Grace Dow (assist) contributed in the win.

HB visits Souhegan on Thursday.

BOW 2, MILFORD 1

The Spartans fell to 2-3-2 despite a goal by Haleigh Lloyd, assisted by Kianna Figuero, as they played unbeaten Bow (7-0-1) tough.

Molly Miles had six saves in goal for the Spartans, who visit John Stark on Friday.

FIELD HOCKEY

SOUHEGAN 7, MILFORD 0

The Sabers (4-3) offense was no match for the Spartans (0-8) on Tuesday. Scoring goals for Souhegan were Emily Facey, Ella Normandin, Caitlin Ridings, Hanalia Dykstra, Lily Goerlich, Eme Godin and Avery Wyborney. Godin, Ella Russel and Maya Bagshaw added assists.

Souhegan hosts Oyster River on Friday and Milford visits Merrimack Valley on Thursday.

GOLF

SOUHEGAN 197, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 234, MILFORD 237

The Sabers top the Cavs and Spartans at Amherst Country Club. Drew Reagan topped everybody with a 36 with Joe Mayo and Patrick Bryson each shooting a 39 for Souhegan.

Ben George led the Cavs with a 38, Matt Howie ended his day with a 42 and Jake Klauber had a 52. Playing well for Milford were Jack Bastarache (44), Hunter Kolesar (46) and Will O’Connell (48).
