HS Roundup: Big wins for North boys soccer, HB field hockey

Thursday was Big Win Day for a couple of local high school teams: Nashua North boys soccer and Hollis Brookine field hockey.

The Titans had an early-season must-win vs. Dover, while HB slayed Division II power John Stark in a battle of unbeatens in Hollis.

Here’s the good news:

BOYS SOCCER

NASHUA NORTH 2, DOVER 0

North got goals by Anthony Ciraso and David Pereira to improve to 2-3.

Ciraso’s goal came in the first half off a feed from Brady Martin, while Pereira added the insurance goal in the second half – his fourth in the last three games.

Defensively, North got a shutout in goal by Tyler Byrne, with defensive help from Brayden Fortier, Evan Grenier, Brady Martin and Patrick Zelanes.

The Titans will host Londonderry on Tuesday at Stellos Stadium.

FIELD HOCKEY

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2, JOHN STARK 0

The Cavaliers (4-0) handed the two-time defending champions their first loss thanks to second quarter goals by Addie Marchant (Sabrina Hill assist) and Brooke Bouchard (off penalty corner).

Cavs goalie Maddie Barich recorded two saves in earning the shutout.

HB is at Milford on Monday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

MILFORD 3, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 0

The 4-0 Spartans earned a 25-6, 25-19, 25-5 sweep thanks to key contributors Kassie Cupin (eight aces, two digs, a kil, eight assists), Emma Desrochers (six aces, two digs, three assists), Piper Greenhalgh (six aces, four digs) and Savannah Watson (six kills, one dig, two aces).

Milford hosts Manchester Memorial next Wednesday.

GOLF

ALVIRNE THIRD, MILFORD FOURTH

The Spartans totaled 239 and the Broncos 227 in a quad match at Atkinson Country Club won by Bow (198), while Timberlane was second (208).

Milford’s top scorers were Will O’Connell (44), Killean O’Connor (46), Hunter Kolesar (48), Jack Bastarache (50) and Will Bertoncini (51).
