Tourney Roundup: BG, Campbell lax win; Campbell nine on top

The two top lacrosse teams in the area as well as one of the better baseball teams all kept their seasons alive on Saturday.

Play on Bishop Guertin and Campbell boys lacrosse, but say farewell for this season to the Merrimack boys lacrosse and Hollis Brookline softball teams.

Here’s your Super Saturday rundown:

BOYS LACROSSE

DIVISION I QUARTERFINALS

No. 2 BISHOP GUERTIN 14, NO. 7 CONCORD 2

The Cardinals jumped out to an 8-0 lead at Stellos Stadium and never looked back.

Carter Jozokos had three goals while Hudson Schmidt and Caleb Yeung had two goals apiece to lead BG. Single goals were by Sean McGarry, Owen King, Michael Ponto, Cam Hayden, Jeremy Warren, Drew Redfern, and Beau Dubois.

BG will now face No. 3 Exeter in Wednesday’s semifinals at Exeter’s Bill Ball Stadium at 5 p.m.

NO. 4 PINKERTON 13, NO. 5 MERRIMACK 5

The Tomahawks season came to a close but that didn’t stop Conor Dunn from setting the school record in points for a season with 70, thanks to his two goals. It surpassed his brother Kyle’s record of 69 a year ago.

Besides Dunn, Max Giles (goal, two assists), Sean Anderson (goal), Hudson Rousseau (goal), Henry Tobin and Gavin Hickey (assist each) also helped out.

Mason Tremblay had 20 saves for the ‘Hawks, who wind up at 9-9. Pinkerton will face No. 1 Bedford in Wednesday’s semis in Exeter.

DIVISION III QUARTERFINALS

NO. 2 CAMPBELL 12, NO. 7 LACONIA 5

The Cougars are returning to the Division III semis for the third straight year as Andrew Wilnus led the way with five goals while Cruz Sandquist had four goals and an assist. Wyatt Tarr and Tyson Landry each had a goal and two assists, while Hunter Grant added a goal and Brandon Portillo added two assists.

Will O’Brien had eight saves for the Cougars, who will now face No. 3 Hopkinton in a rematch of last year’s Finals on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Laconia’s Bank of New Hampshire Stadium.

BASEBALL

DIVISION III QUARTERFINALS

NO. 2 CAMPBELL 10, NO. 7 BISHOP BRADY 0

Jack Kidwell drove in five runs on four hits to pace the Cougars, startin with a two home run in the first scoring two, and drove in two more runs in the second with a single and another in the third with a single.

Campbell now moves on to face No. 3 Hopkinton in the semifinals at Laconia’s Robbie Mills Park on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

SOFTBALL

DIVISION II QUARTERFINALS

NO. 1 COE-BROWN 10, NO. 8 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

Coe-Brown proved why it’s the number one team in Division II, as the Cavaliers season, still successful, ended at 12-9.
