HS Roundup: Saber girls only local tennis winner; BG lax teams lose heartbreakers

And then there was one.

The Souhegan High School girls tennis team is the only local remaining in Division I or II after Thursday’s quarterfinals that saw the Sabers win but Hollis Brookline (Division II), Bishop Guertin and Nashua North (Division I) all see their seasons end.

Here’s a look at those and other results on Thursday:

GIRLS TENNIS

DIVISION II QUARTERFINALS

NO. 2 SOUHEGAN 7, NO. 7 KEENE 2

The Sabers improved to 14-1 and advanced to the semis, when they will face either Winnacunnet or Windham in the semis on Monday in Amherst.

The Sabers swept doubles to get the win, as they won four of six singles. Callie Perrin and Caroline Drum teamed up for a tight 8-6 win, while at No. 2 doubles Tess Jancar/Mishka Tower won 8-4 and Ori Dart/Sophia Yates prevailed at No. 3 8-3.

Jancar (8-5), Tower (8-3), Drum (8-1) and Dart (8-1) all won in singles.

NO. 4 PORTSMOUTH 7, NO. 5 HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The Cavs otherwise successful season came to an end at 10-5, as wins at No. 3 singles by Kate Berrigan (8-3) and Malaya Colena (9-7) at No. 6 weren’t going to be nearly enough.

Portsmouth (12-3) will now tangle with top seed Oyster River in Monday’s semis.

DIVISON I QUARTERFINALS

No. 1 DERRYFIELD 9, NO. 8 NASHUA NORTH 0

It was a tough end to an otherwise very successful season for the Titans (9-7). Caitlyn Mamos won the most games in singles in bowing 8-3 while the Titans’ No. 1 doubles team of Mary Pappas/Clare Tran fell 8-5.

Derryfield will take on No. 4 Exeter in Monday’s semis.

NO. 3 DOVER 8, NO. 6 BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cards played well in their prelim round win over Salem but Dover was another story. Still, BG had a good spring, finishing up at 11-5.

Dover will face No. 2 Bedford in Monday’s semis.

BASEBALL

PORTSMOUTH 11, NASHUA SOUTH 3

Leo Depaulo had a double and Gus Smiley a single for the Panthers, who wrapped up the season at 4-14.

BEDFORD 10, NASHUA NORTH 1

North’s Nolan Sullivan went 1 or 3 with a run scored, driven in by Ty Madeira, who also went 1-for 3. But it wasn’t nearly enough for the Titans, who finished the regular season at 8-10 and will likely be on the road in the Division I first round next Thursday.

SOFTBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 4, PORTSMOUTH 0

The Panthers (4-14) wrapped up the season with two wins in their final three games. Yesterday Jill Daley tossed a complete game shutout.Daley scattered 10 hits, striking out six with no walks.

Morgan Gillis paced the offense in what was likely her final game in a Panther uniform, going 2 for 3 with two steals.

Maliya Richer-Valentin doubles in a run, and Emly Richard had an RBI hit.

South

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 15, MERRIMACK 6

Maren Lowell and Ella Benzekri had four goals and an assist each, while Karina O’Donnell had three goals.

Morgan Uzdanovich (goal, assist), Nevaeh Eppolitto, Saige Devins, and Maddie Matylewski (goal each) also contributed on offense.

Benzekri recorded her 300th career draw control, while Audry Mullaney,Abbey Herlihy, Abbey Benotti, Brynn Tefft and Karina Santan all played well defensvely.

DERRYFIELD 12, NASHUA NORTH 2

Molly Ducharme and Alexa Farrell scored for North, which got great defense from Rachel Gauthier, Lauren O’Neil and Hana Dratch in front of goalies Elliott Brown (six saves) and Mya Zibolis (12).

The Titans were ever improving, despite seeing their season end at 1-17.

NEWBURYPORT (Mass.) 11, BISHOP GUERTIN 10

Arianna Kouchalakos scored her 100th career point but the Cardinals (14-3) fell just short in their out-of-state regular season finale, as their 11-game win streak was snapped.

Kouchalakos had two goals, an assist, four draw controls and scooped up six ground balls. Lauren Redfern had two goals, four assists and a draw control, while Lola Dumont had four goals and two draws.

Abby Lynn (goal, assist, two draws), Skylar Naftali (goal) and goalie Maddy Eder-Linell (six saves) also helped out.

BOYS LACROSSE

BOSTON COLLEGE HIGH 10, BISHOP GUERTIN 9

The Cards 12-game win streak was snapped in the cruelest of ways. BG tied the game 9-9 with 17 seconds left only to see BC High, whom the Cards beat at Stellos last year, with just two seconds left on the clock.

Guertin’s regular season ends at 15-3, they’ll likely be the second seed in the Division I tourney.

LEBANON 14, MILFORD 2

Braydon Atwood had two goals, and Chris Quezda had one assist for the Spartans, who got 13 saves from

Brennan Cassidy in goal with defensive help from Braedon Orlen and Dartagnan Boudreau.

The Spartans wrapped up their season at 1-14.

EXETER 15, MERRIMACK 3 (Wednesday)

The Tomahawks are now 8-8 as Conor Dunn had two goals and Sean Anderson two assists. Mason Tremblay was busy in goal with 21 saves.

The ‘Hawks and Nashua South square off today in Merrimack to wrap up the regular season.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, GOFFSTOWN 0

The Cavs enjoyed a 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 sweep on Senior Night with Bradley Noble (seven kills, five aces, 23 assists), Jordan Beck (eight kills), and Kyle Sanborn (four kills) led the way.

The Cavs (11-3) wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at Windham.

SOUHEGAN 3, GOFFSTOWN 2 (Wednesday)

The Sabers pulled it out in the fifth and deciding set, as Addison Hodgdon had 19 kills whle Everett Boyer (18 kills, four aces) and Adyn Davis (10 kills, two aces) also stood out. Hodgdon had 13 kills in a recent three-set win over Bishop Guertin while Chase McBride had 19 assists in another three-set win over Mascenic. The Sabers (12-2) host Keene today.

BOYS AND GIRLS TRACK

DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIP

In the boys meet at Tilton, Campbell totaled six points in 19th. Campbell’s Joey Allen was third in the pole vault at 11-0. Trinity took the title with 55 points, while Portsmouth Christian was second at 51.

Campbell did not score as a team in the girls, which was won by Hopkinton, 45-44 over Pelham.
