HS Roundup: Titan girls get tourney win; Alvirne baseball shocks Londonderry

It’s playoff time for one sport, and nailbiting time for the others as teams look to improve their spot in the high school standings or make a final push for a tourney berth.

But Wednesdahy was a good day for the Nashua North girls tennis team, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the Divsion I tournament.

Here’s a look at a busy day in a lot of sports with one major upset:

GIRLS TENNIS

DIVISON I PRELIMS

NO. 9 NASHUA NORTH 5, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 4

It took two days thanks to weather, but the Titans (9-6) took Nos. 2 and 3 doubles from the Little Green to pull out the match after the teams split singles.

The teams of Sanya Rane and Caitlyn Mamos (8-1) and Brielle Baxter/Leena Srinivas (8-4) triumphed, giving North the match. Singles winners for the Titans included Rane at No. 2 (8-1), Baxter at No. 5 (8-1) and Srinivas at No. 6 (8-4).

The win earns the Titans another trip up the highway to face No. 1 unbeaten Derryfield in today’s quarterfinals.

BOYS TENNIS

DIVISION I PRELIMS

NO. 7 KEENE 8, NO. 10 BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Cards did well to make the tourney with an entirely new team after reaching the semis last year, but yesterday could only manage a win at No. 2 singles by Evan Deyak, who down Keene’s Matt McGreer 8-3.

BG wraps up the team portion of the season at 6-9, while Keene moves on to face No. 2 Hanover in Friday’s quarterfinals.

NO. 8 DOVER 7, NO. 9 ALVIRNE 2

The Broncos season comes to an end, but it was still an improvement from a non-tourney season last year at 7-8.

Dover moves on to face No. 1 Bedford on Friday.

BASEBALL

ALVIRNE 7, LONDONDERRY 5

The Broncos (6-12) defeat the Lancers to win their third consecutive game. Devin Smith pitched well and Mike Bebris came in to close out the game. Alvirne hosts Merrimack on Friday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 10, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 3

Jaiden Bosquet had a strong relief performance on the Gill Stadium mound as the Cards improved to 11-8. He struck out 10 in 4.2 innings of work, allowing just one hit. Isaac Crivic and Ethan Drouin each had two hits and an RBI while Sam Franco, A.J. Holmes, Gavin Santos, Josh Wilson (two) and Nicholas Wyner each had RBIs.

Guertin wraps up the regular season on Friday vs. Portsmouth at BG’s Elliott Field.

EXETER 10, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans drop to 8-9 after a shutout loss to the Blue Hawks. Austin Suchecki had two hits on the day. North hosts Bedford today at Holman Stadium.

TIMBERLANE 1, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers (4-13) got shutout by the Owls and lose their ninth straight game. Mollin Kochanek and Max Demers had one hit apiece. Leo DePaolo struck out four in seven innings. South visits Portsmouth on Thursday.

MILFORD 5, CONVAL 3

The Spartans (7-8) squeeze by ConVal off the heels of a spectacular performance from Bryce Larco. Larco had a double, two runs and a stolen base on offense, also pitching a complete game giving up two runs and striking out seven. Logan Howard had a hit, two RBIs and a stolen base with Patrick Lordan adding a hit and a RBI. Milford hosts Oyster River on Friday.

SOFTBALL

TIMBERLANE 9, NASHUA SOUTH 5

The Panthers (3-14) fall to the Owls on Wednesday. Morgan Gillis led South with three hits and a RBI. Brooke Berger (double, two RBIs), Maliyah Richer-Valentin (two RBIs) and Cara Leblond (two hits) played well offensively. South hosts Portsmouth on Thursday.

MERRIMACK 12, KEENE 5

The Tomahawks improved to 10-7 as Bayliegh Robichaud (three hits, solo homer) and Lily Dionnne (four hits) led the way offensively for what was a 17-hit attack.

Avery Hui, Kate Coolidge and Hayden Stuart had two hits apiece. Marisa Nelson recorded her 100th strikeout of the season and earned her eighth win. The ‘Hawks wrap up the regular season Friday at home vs. Alvirne.

CONVAL 10, MILFORD 7

The Spartans (4-11) end the day with a loss despite leading 6-0 in the game. Alivia Mazzeo tallied two doubles and a single, while Molly Miles and Natalie Lawton each had two hits. Mazzeo struck out two in the circle. Milford hosts Oyster River on Friday.

MERRIMACK VALLEY 16, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 12

The Cavs defensive mistakes led to a loss on Wednesday. Emily Tebbetts knocked two out of the park and added three runs and three RBIs. Savannah Duquette hit a grand slam with Ava Imbrogno, Liv Colantuonio, Katrina Lee and Jenna O’Connor had two hits each. HB ends the regular season at 10-6.

BOYS LACROSSE

CAMPBELL 10, LEBANON 2

Wyatt Tarr (two goals, three assists) and Andrew Willnus (three goals, assist) tallied five and four points respectively in the Cougars (13-3) win. Others adding to the dominant performance were Cruz Sandquist (two goals), Zach Hannah (two goals), Matthew DeCarli (goal), Brandon Portillo (assist), Will O’Brien (five saves) and Lucas Craig (10 face-off wins). Campbell visits Bishop Brady on Thursday.

GILFORD 11, MILFORD 1

Tyler Descoteaux scored the Spartans (1-13) only goal on an assist from Dylan MacLeod. Brennan Cassidy stopped 12 shots. Milford visits Lebanon on Thursday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 16, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Cardinals (14-2) win their 11th straight game when they faced off against the Titans (1-16). North had goals from Molly Ducharme and Alexa Farrell. Hana Dratch, Maggie Nelson, Emily Pinsonneault, Summer St. Pierre and Kaitlyn Frye were honored on Senior Night. BG visits Newburyport and North hosts Derryfield on Thursday.

NASHUA SOUTH 16, KEENE 5

Maren Lowell collected five goals and two assists in the Panthers (10-7) dominating win on the road. Saige Devins (three goals, two assists), Morgan Uzdanovich (three goals, two assists), Ella Benzekri (three goals), Karina O’Donnell (two goals), Maddie Matylewski (assist) and Keira Walsh (four saves) played well for the locals. South visits Merrimack on Thursday.

SOUHEGAN 12, PINKERTON 9

Libby Kennedy found the back of the net seven times to lead the Sabers (13-3) past the Astros. Izzy Stevenson (two goals, two assists, seven ground balls), Emma Kennedy (goal, three assists, five ground balls), Lanai Hickman (goal) and Catie Schriever (three saves) contributed in the wins. Souhegan hosts Portsmouth on Friday.
