HS Roundup: South girls lax tops North; Bronco softball wins

There’s still a healthy rivalry between the Nashua High School North and South girls lacrosse teams, and suffice to say the rematch of South’s rout two weeks ago was a bit closer and more competitive, while the Panthers still came out on top by seven.

“Our defense was outstanding with great communication and supporting each other,” North coach Jenn Dyer messaged. “Progress, couldn’t be prouder.”

Of course the Panthers are proud of the fact they are now 8-6 and closing in on the post season.

Rain wiped out a portion of the schedule. For example, yesterday’s South-Alvirne baseball game was postponed until Saturday — at 8 a.m. in Hudson. Also take note: Today’s Pinkerton at Bishop Guertin girls lacrosse game at Stellos Stadium will start at 5 p.m. instead of the orginal 4 p.m. time.

Here’s a look at what was played, beginning with the North-South game:

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 13, NASHUA NORTH 6

Karina O’Donnell netted four goals and had an assist in the Panthers (8-6) win over the rival Titans (1-13).

Playing well offensively were Ella Benzekri (three goals), Maren Lowell (two goals, assist), Saige Devins (two goals, assist), Morgan Udzanovich (goal), Wylie Hart (goal0, Nevaeh Eppolitto (assist). The defense was led by Audrey Mullaney, Brynn Tefft, Karina Santana and Abby Herlihy.

North’s Summer St.Pierre scored three goals, Molly Ducharme tallied two goals and an assist and Savanna Basford had a goal for the offense. Mya Zibolis and Elliott Brown made 12 and five saves respectively.

South visits Bedford on Friday and North hosts Dover on Friday.

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, GOFFSTOWN 0

AJ Holmes pitched five innings giving up no runs and struck out six in the Cardinals (9-8) shutout win.

Jackson Goldstein picked up the save going two innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Kolby Piper (double, run), Isaac Crivac (hit, RBI) and Holmes (hit, RBI) led the offense. BG hosts Portsmouth on Thursday.

MILFORD 12, CONVAL 11

The Spartans (5-7) hold on for the win after gaining a five run lead in the third. Harris Jones earned the win allowing four hits and two runs over three innings, while striking out one. Logan Howard led Milford with two hits and four RBIs.

Bryce Larco, Patrick Lordan, Ethan Szopa and Gabe St. Onge each collected two hits for the locals. Milford hosts Hanover on Friday.

SOFTBALL

ALVIRNE 10, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Broncos (4-10) shutout the Panthers (2-10) in their matchup on Monday. Kenzie Pooler (two hits, three RBIs), Ashleigh Ducharme (four hits), Shayleigh Nielsen (double, two RBIs), Jenna Kulick (RBI), Avery Willard (two hits), Cori Sevigny (two hits) and Alyssa Abbott (two hits, two stolen bases) led the Alvirne offense. Ducharme earned the win allowing one hit and striking out four over six and two-thirds innings.

South’s Morgan Gillis collected their only hit. Cate Marvin allowed seven hits, five runs and struck out four over three innings.

Alvirne hosts Manchester Central-Memorial on Friday and South hosts Merrimack on Thursday.

CONVAL 9, MILFORD 2

The Spartans (4-8) fall at home to ConVal. Hannah Harrington and Mya Coombs both had two hits, while Anna Philbrick had a hit and a stolen base. Alivia Mazzeo struck out three in the circle. Milford hosts Hanover on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, LEBANON 1

Kailey Disco gave up three hits and struck out 11 to lead the Cavs (8-5) past Lebanon. Helping the offense were Liv Colantuonio (hit, two runs, two stolen bases), Savannah Duquette (two hits, RBI) and Ava Imbrogno (RBI).

HB visits Laconia on Friday.

BOYS LACROSSE

ALVIRNE 13, MERRIMACK VALLEY 4

Jon Santana and Cedrik Beaulieu scored six and five goals respectively in the Broncos (9-5) win. Brandon Lavarnway (goal, two assists), Chris Darbe (goal), Ryan Tobin (two assists), Ayden Kelly (18 saves) and Brody Orr (10 face-off wins) played well for the locals. Alvirne hosts Portsmouth on Friday.

BISHOP BRADY 12, MILFORD 2

Braydon Atwood scored twice and Jake Swick added an assist in the Spartans (0-11) loss. Brennan Cassidy made 12 stops in net. Milford visits Laconia on Thursday.

WINDHAM 14, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 7

The Cavs (9-4) win streak ends at seven at the hands of the Jaguars. Cailean Roy (three goals), Sabrina Hill (two goals, assist), Juliette Ogren (goal, assist) and Samantha Smith (goal). HB hosts Hanover on Friday.

GIRLS TENNIS

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6, KEENE 3

Anuhya Chilakapati (9-7), Anna Heiplik (8-2), Iresha Sidhu (8-3), Annalise Walle (8-2) and Malaya Colena (8-4) won in singles. Walle/Sidhu (8-2) won in doubles. HB (10-3) visits Souhegan on Friday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, KEENE 0

The Cavs won in straight sets, 25-16,26-24, 25-18 as Ethan Norris had three aces and six kills while Jordan Beck had two aces and 16 kills. Matteo Morel added two kills and two blocks.

HB will visit Coe-Brown on Monday.
