HS Roundup: Big day for South track and Saber boys tennis

Tuesday was likely the best weather day of the spring and the Nashua High School South track and girls lacrosse teams celebrated with victories, along with the Souhegan boys tennis team, which handed Windham its first loss of the season.

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK
SOUTH SWEEPS
The Panthers dominated a tri-meet in Rochester with Winnacunnet and Spaulding, as the boys totaled 105 points, well ahead of the Warriors (42) and Spaulding (34).
The girls did the same, scoring 95.5, while Winnacunnet had 58 and Spaulding just 27.5.
In the boys meet, South winners were Michael Menezes in the 100 (11.45), Barion Perry in the 200 (23.32), Camdon Brien in the 800 (2:06.79), Dante Castellano in the 1600 (4:35.26), Ryan DuVarney in the 3200 (10:29.19), Preston Bois in the triple jump (42-11), Elyza Mercado in the shot put (46-9) and discus (149-5), and Sawyer Penny in the javelin (140-6).
The South boys took both relays, with Menezes, Ryan Jansen, Tim Staveley and Ethan Schnyer coming in at 43.81 in the 4×100. Brien, Revin Olsen, Sergio Lopez and Perry teamed up for a win in the 4×400 in 3:35.81.
In the girls meet, South winners included Nyah Musah in the 100 (12.93), Soraya Ross the 200 (26.75), Ariana Marengo in the 1600 (6:17.07), Emely Melendez the 3200 (13:25.15), Penelope Rodriguez in the high jump (4-11), Emma Millette in the long jump (31-9) and triple jump (31-9), Nora Gautieri the shot put (31-8.25), and Chloe Cruz the discus (98-3).
South took both relays as Alejandra Chavarin, Ross, Mimi Ortiz and Musa won the 4×100 in 50.83, and Marengo, Sarah Witta, Camrin Ayi and Musa won the 4×400 in 4:19.84.
MILFORD BOYS, HOLLIS BROOKLINE GIRLS WIN
The Spartan boys totaled 91 points in a four-team meet at Souhegan, while the Hollis Brookline girls hit 90.
Souhegan (75) was second in the boys meet, followed by HB (45) and Goffstown (44).
Goffstown (62) was second in the girls, with Milford third at 60, ahead of Souhegan (44).
BOYS MEET
Winners for Milford included Avery Wilson in the 200 (22.98), Grant Skorupan in the1600 (4:53.25), Chase Palva the 3200 (10:54.22), Ethan Morin in the high jump (6-1), Cade Cloutier in the shot put (40-0), Eli Gutierrez the discus (95-1). The foursome of Joshua and Matt Pettingell, Wilson and Kenyon Sora captured the 4×100 relay in 44.39.
Hollis Brookline’s Andrew Desmarais won the 100 in 11.46.
Finley Irvine won the 800 for Souhegan in 2:00.90 while Cole Henderson had a great day as he took the 110 and 300 hurdles (15.51, 42.12) as well as the long jump (19-4.25) and the Sabers took the 4×400 relay. Saber Owen Pisinksi won the pole vault t 11-6.
GIRLS MEET
HB winners included Brooke Bouchard in the 1600 (5:48.94), Quinn Hardy in the 3200 (14:06.90), Grace Dow in the 100 hurdles (15.97), Addison Fyfe in the pole vault (8-6), Claire Ballou in the long jump (14-0.25) and triple jump (30-10).
The Cavs took both relays. The foursome of Adrienne Thibault,Margaret Noble, Maia Arthur, and Dow won the 4×100 in 52.49 seconds, while Bouchard, Ballou, Ana O’Donnell and Annika Bergin took the 4×400 in 4:19.87.
For Milford, Keely Giordano won the 100 and 200 meters, whle Zoe Rick took the shot put (28-6) and discus (77-11)
Souhegan got a win from Emma Tapley in the 300 hurdles.
BASEBALL
SALEM 10, NASHUA SOUTH 2
The tough stretch continues for the Panthers (4-8). Colin Kochanek had two hits while Grant McCubrey doubled and Kosay Tanaka had a hit.
South is at Alvirne today.
SOFTBALL
SPAULDING 4, NASHUA SOUTH 3
The Red Raiders scored the game-winner in the top of the seventh on an RBI groundout, breaking the Panthers’ hearts after they rallied down 3-0 to score three in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Charlotte Primeau and a line out by Jill Daley.
Morgan Gillis led the South offense, going 2-for-4. South also had a good eye at the plate, walking six times.
The Panthers (2-9) host Alvirne today.
GIRLS LACROSSE
NASHUA SOUTH 15, SALEM 5
The Panthers improved to 7-6, led by four goals and two assists by MarenLowell and four goals by Saige Devins.
Ella Benzekri added two goals and an assist, while other contributors on offense included Morgan Uzdanovich (goal, three assists), Maddie Matylewski and Karina O’Donnell (goal, two assists each), and Nevaeh Eppolitto and Wylie Hart (goal each).
Keira Walsh had eight saves in goal for South, while also playing well were Audrey Mullaney, Abby Herlihy, Brynn Tefft an Karina Santana.
South faces North in a rematch today at 6 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.
BOYS LACROSSE
ALVIRNE 14, CONVAL 2
The Broncos cruised as Jon Santana erupted for seven goals, while Cedrik Beaulieu and Ryan Hurrell each had one and Ryan Tobin and Brandon Lavarnway each had a pair of goals.
Ayden Kelly made seven saves while Brody Orr won eight faceoffs for the Broncos, now 8-5 after their third straight win. Alvirne hosts Merrimack Valley today.
BOYS TENNIS
ALVIRNE 8, MERRIMACK 1
The Broncos improved to 6-7 as they swept singles with wins by Sam Hergenhahn, Zack Proulx, Caleb Lambert, Sean Mendes, Dylan Burke, and Owen Supenant.
Merrimack’s lone win was by the No. 3 doubles team of Lucas Goldbert/Felix Rattunde, 8-3.
SOUHEGAN 5, WINDHAM 4
The Sabers got a big win – their fifth straight — thanks to taking two of three doubles, with Connor Firmin/Balthazar Glover (8-6) and Patrick Bryson/Ryan Fernandez (8-1) coming out on top.
Singles winners were No.2 Parker Shade (8-5), Firmin (8-3) and Glover (8-6).
The Sabers, now 7-6, will close out the regular season on Thursday, hosting Coe-Brown Northwood.
GIRLS TENNIS
ALVIRNE 6, MERRIMACK 3
The Broncos won their third match (3-10) of the season led by four freshmen winning five of the six singles matches.
Winners for Alvirne were No. 3 Samantha Schiller (8-2), No. 4 Courtney Anderson (8-5), No. 5 Ella Proulx (8-2), and No. 6 Alliana Giroux (8-2).
Giroux/Proulx won in doubles 8-2.
Alvirne closes out the season at Dover on Friday. Merrimack (2-10) is at Bedford today.
DOVER 9, NASHUA SOUTH 0
The Panthers had a tough day with the Green Wave, but Piya Choski nearly pulled out a win at No. 2 singles, eventually falling 9-7.
Now 4-9, South finishes up at Exeter on Friday.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, BOW 0
The Cavaliers enjoyed yet another sweep, with Keila Swart (8-0), Anuhya Chilakapti (8-2), Anna Heiplik (8-1), Sapph Sidhu (8-1), Annalise Walle (8-2) and Malaya Colena (8-0) all coming out on top.
Swart/Chilakapati (8-5), Heiplik/Walle (8-4) and Colena/Sidhu (8-0) completed the sweep in doubles.
