HS Roundup: North, BG, Campbell get wins; milestone for Cards’ Redfern

It’s shaping up to be an interesting spring, especially in high school baseball. Merrimack (unbeaten), Nashua North and Bishop Guertin picked up big wins on Friday, and Campbell looks to be a factor in Division III.

In other sports, BG’s Lauren Redfern hit a girls lacrosse milestone, and in girls tennis Souhegan remains unbeaten.

Here’s a look at a busy Friday:

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, SALEM 0

Ben Geiger got the win on the mound pitching six innings while allowing five hits and striking out two. BG (3-1) was led offensively by Gavin Santos (hit, run, RBI, stolen base), Kolby Pipe (double, run) and Sam Franco (hit, run, RBI, stolen base).

BG hosts Dover today as the last game in the quadrupleheader at Holman Stadium that features North, South, and Souhegan as the three other local teams beginning at 10 a.m.

NASHUA NORTH 12, TIMBERLANE 6

Nolan Sullivan picked up his first varsity win on the mound for the Titans (2-1) on Friday afternoon. Austin Suchecki, Ty Byrne and Jayce Martinez had two hits apiece and combined for nine RBIs. North faces Salem on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holman.

MERRIMACK 6, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0

Jayden Gallano struck out three and allowed one hit in five innings to lead the Tomahawks (5-0) shutout victory. Logan Hoag struck out three batters and secured the save. Ryan Mainey collected three hits and Zach Retey had two hits and a RBI. Merrimack visits Nashua North on Monday at 1 p.m. at Holman Stadium.

WINNACUNNET 5, ALVIRNE 4

The Broncos (0-5) lose a tough game to the Warriors. Kyle Dufour led the offense with two hits, one run and a RBI. Devin Smith (hit, RBI), Chase Mitchell (hit, RBI) and Jameson Krueger (hit, run) played well for the locals, Logan Casey pitched six innings allowing seven hits and three runs. Alvirne visits Exeter on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 16, SOMERSWORTH 9

Jack Kidwell highlighted the Cougars (3-1) offense with a grand slam to go with three hits in their win on Friday. Brady Marcotte, Mikey Grace and Braydon White also had hot bats as they recorded three hits each.

Hunter Henderson and Brady Gerardy supported the effort with multiple hits. Henderson pitched five innings allowing three hits and two runs. Campbell visits Berlin on Tuesday.

COE-BROWN 1, MILFORD 0

The Spartans (1-3) lose a nail biter that went nine innings. Bryce Larco went seven innings giving up no runs on two hits and struck out four and also added a hit on offense. Gabe St. Onge was able to get his first varsity hit. Landon Pierce pitched well in relief and also had a hit. Milford hosts St. Thomas on April 29.

SOFTBALL

CONCORD, 18, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Tide took advantage of 19 hits. Brooke Berger went 1 for 2 to lead the Panthers, now 0-3 and hosting Pinkerton on Monday.

OYSTER RIVER 7, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavs (3-1) see their first loss by getting shutout by Oyster River. Kailey Disco and Olivia Colantuonio each collected two hits. HB visits John Stark on Monday.

COE-BROWN 15, MILFORD 3

After taking an early 3-0 lead the Spartans (1-3) went cold fell to Coe-Brown. Hannah Harrington had three hits and a RBI and Mya Coombs tallied two hits and an RBI. Alivia Mazzeo pitched five innings and struck out four. Milford hosts Campbell on April 29.

BOYS LACROSSE

MERRIMACK 10, CONCORD 9 (OT)

Hudson Rousseau (two goals, two assists) scored the game winner in extra time to help the Tomahawks (2-1) past Concord. Playing well for Merrimack were Conor Dunn (three goals, two assists), Sean Anderson (two goals), Max Giles (goal, two assists), Henry Tobin (goal, assist), Landon Bedard (goal), Cayden Dine (assist) and Mason Tremblay (17 saves). Merrimack hosts Concord on Tuesday.

OYSTER RIVER 14, ALVIRNE 2

The Broncos (3-1) falter for the first time this season when they faced off with Oyster River. Jonavan Santana and Ryan Tobin scored one goal apiece and Brandon Lavarnway tallied two assists. Alvirne visits Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 17, WINNACUNNET 3

Lauren Redfern (five goals, two assists) recorded her 100th goal in the Cardinals win over the Warriors. Lola Dumont (three goals, assist, three groundballs), Anna Campel (two goals, assist), Arianna Kouchalakos (two goals), Kamryn Schmitt (goal, assist), Abby Lynn (goal), Mariella Tomasello (goal) and Maddy Eder-Linell (four saves) had major contributions for the locals. BG visits Notre Dame Academy (MA) on Tuesday.

SALEM 14, NASHUA NORTH 12

The Titans fall to 0-4 after a tough battle with the Blue Devils. Summer St. Pierre had a great game tallying six goals and three assists. Molly Ducharme had four goals and an assist, Anya Seo scored two goals, Rachel Gauthier added an assist and Mya Zibolis made 15 saves. North visits Derryfield on Monday.

WINDHAM 10, NASHUA SOUTH 4

The Panthers (3-2) drop their second game in a row when they visited the Jaguars. Ella Benzekri scored three goals and Karina O’Donnell added one with Maren Lowell adding an assist. Keira Walsh made three saves. South hosts Merrimack on Monday.

HOPKINTON 17, CAMPBELL 8

The Cougars fall to 1-3 after their loss on Friday. Ava Grant found the back of the net six times and added an assist, while Abby Guerette scored two goals and had an assist. Campbell visits Plymouth on April 30.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 7, LONDONDERRY 2

The Panthers took four of six singles and then swept doubles to improve to 2-3.

Singles winners were Nishi Matta and Piya Chotski atop the ladder, both by 8-3, and Riga Shroff (9-8, 7-4) at No. 4 and Gowri Akkineni at No. 5 (8-5).

Matta/Chotski, Hannah Jacob/Shroff (both 8-5) and Soha Patel/Akkineni 8-2 completed the win.

DOVER 9, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans had a tough time but Mary Pappas and Sanya Rane kept it close (both 8-4) in their singles losses. Rane/Caitlyn Mamos played a close No. 2 doubles match, bowing 8-5.

SOUHEGAN 9, KENNETT 0

The Sabers (5-0) cruised with singles wins by Callie Perrin (8-0), Mishka Tower (8-4), Ori Dart (8-0), Sophia Yates (8-5), Amanda Leary (8-2) and Callie Russell (8-2).

Dart/Leary (8-5), Hycuna/Lewellyn (8-3) and Lucy Wysor/Abby Cho (8-2) completed the sweep.

BOYS TENNIS

NASHUA SOUTH 5, LONDONDERRY 4

The Panthers took two of three doubles to edge the Lancers and move to 3-0 on the season.

The teams split singles with South’s Abhinav Avvaru (9-7), Atul Phadke (8-3) and Aadi Kulkarni (8-1) winning.

The No. 1 and 3 doubles teams prevailed, Avvaru/Phadke (8-2) and Kulkarni/Garimella (8-3) on top.

BISHOP GUERTIN 6, CONCORD 3

The Cards got four singles wins and took the match with two of three doubles.

Singles winners were Jack Kostansek (8-4), Evan Deyak (8-0), Jaime Gomez-Herrera and Jonny Perrot (both 8-5).

Kostansek/Deyak (8-3) and No. 3 Gomez-Herrera/Lizotte won 8-0.

WINNACUNNET 8, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1

The Cavs (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season, getting just a singles win from No. 5 Dylan Legro, who rallied down 3-0 to win 8-5. Legro is 5-0 this season.

ALVIRNE 6, SPAULDING 3

The Broncos took Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to clinch a win after taking four of six singles.

Zack Proulx (8-6), Dylan Burke (8-2), Owen Suprenant (8-0) and Sam Kudicala (9-8, 7-4) were singles winners, while the doubles teams of Proulx/Sean Mendes (8-2) and Burke/Kudicala (8-6) prevailed.

SOUHEGAN 8, KENNETT 1

The Sabers took five of six singles to get the win, with Brian Goddard (8-1), Connor Firmin (8-1), Parker Shade (8-0), Patrick Bryson (8-3) and Carpenter Berube (8-0) all coming out on top.

Goddard/Shade (8-5), Firmin/Fernandez (8-3) and Bryson/Berube (8-3) won as well in a doubles sweep.
