HS Roundup: Merrimack baseball wins again, South girls lax 3-0

Last Monday the spring opener was just a handful of games locally. Not the case this week, as there’s a plethora of local action to take in. Nashua North had a tough opening in baseball, while Merrimack won again to improve to 3-0, all on the road.

Here’s a look:

BASEBALL

TRINITY 12, NASHUA SOUTH 8

The Panthers lose their first game of the season when they visited Trinity. Logan Fier recorded one hit, two RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases. Chase O’Brien had one hit with three runs and three stolen bases. South hosts Concord on Friday.

DOVER 10, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans open the season with a shutout loss. Mario Ramirez hit a double and Austin Suchecki had a hit. North visits Goffstown on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 8, SPAULDING 4

Elliot Medlock hit a bases clearing three RBI shot in the top of the seventh to take the lead and the win for the 3-0 Tomahawks. Ryan Mainey threw four innings striking out five and giving up one earned run. Logan Hoag got the win coming in relief while striking out five with one earned run. Shay Collins added a single with two RBIs. Merrimack hosts Portsmouth on Wednesday for its home opener.

PORTSMOUTH 8, ALVIRNE 0

The Broncos offensive struggles continue with a shutout loss to the Clippers. Mikey Bebris pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing three earned runs, seven hits and striking out 10. Jaxson Polleck picked up his first varsity hit. Alvirne hosts Bishop Guertin on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 11, MILFORD 5

Travis Lafontaine collected five hits to lead the Cavs past the Spartans. HB took the lead in the bottom of the first with a double from Dylan Morelli and single by Thomas Howie.

Paul Gehan drove the middle of the lineup going one for two on the day with a towering three run home run to right field. Matt Bergin also collected multiple hits on the day, with HB totaling 15 hits. Morelli earned the win allowing four hits and three runs while striking out nine in four innings. Jason Laberis struck out five and allowed five hits in relief.

Bryce Larco had three hits with a homerun and Landon Pierce had two hits for the Spartans. HB hosts Pelham and Milford hosts Souhegan on Wednesday.

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 16, BEDFORD 3

Meara McDevitt recorded five hits and four RBIs in the Cardinals dominating win over the Bulldogs. Avery Zapanas allowed five hits and three runs over four innings while striking out three.

Zapanas, Kennedy FitzSimons and Sophie Bilodeau (two RBIs) added multiple hits to the offense. Mack Bowen tallied a single and Giavanna Bellino had a double and a RBI. BG hosts Alvirne on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 15, MILFORD 3

The Cavs win their home opener in a five inning rout of the Spartans. Kailey Disco allowed six hits and struck out eight in five innings. Contributing to the offensive output were Disco (two hits, two runs), Katrina Lee (two hits, three runs), Sophia Brickner (three hits), Ava Imbrogno (four hits, three runs), Lindsey Emmons (three hits, two runs), Jenna O’Connor (two runs) and Meghan Park (double, three RBIs).

For Milford, Alivia Mazzeo went the distance striking out one. Anna Philbrick (two hits, RBI), Haley Harrinton (two hits), Molly Miles (RBI), Nadia Dutton (RBI) played well at the plate. HB hosts Pelham and Milford hosts Souhegan on Wednesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

BISHOP GUERTIN 18, SALEM 4

The Cardinals roll past the Blue Devils on Monday. Sean McGarry (three assists), Brady Dumont (three assists) and Carter Jozokos each tallied a hat trick. Caleb Yeung (two goals, two assists), Owen King (two goals, two assists), Alex Dumont (goal), Jeremy Warren (goal, assist), Logan Venne (goal), Beau Dubois (goal), Finn Moran (goal), Cam Hayden (two assists), Micah Dunsmoor (assist), Hudson Schmitt (assist), Paulo Vazquez (three assists) and Sean Krauss (assist) contributed to the offense.

BG visits St. John’s Prep (MA) on Tuesday.

MANCHESTER MEMORIAL-CENTRAL 7, NASHUA NORTH 6

The Titans lose a close one on the road Monday afternoon. Caleb Smith and Patrick Shaw scored one goal apiece. Jack Krulikowski secured six ground balls and Jace Colon made 10 saves. North visits Hollis Brookline on Wednesday.

ALVIRNE 10, SOUHEGAN 3

Cedrik Beaulieu scored four goals to lead the Broncos past the Sabers. Ryan Tobin had two goals, with teammates Jon Santana (four assists), Ryan Hurrell (two assists), Preston Ball and Logan Reynolds each adding one goal.

Ayden Kelly made 17 saves and Cam Drohan picked up four ground balls. Alvirne hosts Oyster River on Friday and Souhegan visits Derryfield on Wednesday.

PLYMOUTH 14, MILFORD 1

The Spartans fell at home to Plymouth on Monday. Tyler Descoteaux scored the locals lone goal with Sylan MacLeod earning the assist. Brennan Cassidy collected 12 saves.

Milford visits Pelham on Wednesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 15, CONCORD 8

Karina O’Donnell and Maren Lowell mirrored each other with five goals and one assist each in the Panthers win. Saige Devins contributed two goals and two assists.

Morgan Uzdanovich tallied two goals and one assist with Nevaeh Eppolito adding one goal. Keira Walsh had five saves in net.

South visits Souhegan on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 12, INTERLAKES 4

Ava Grant scored six goals to pace the Cougars in their win. Maddie Cuvelier (three goals, assist), Melina Girgis (two goals) and Abby Guerette (goal, assist) contributed to the offense. Campbell hosts Trinity on Wednesday.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 8, SPAULDING 1

Jack Kostansek (9-7), Evan Deyak (8-4), Jaime Gomez-Herrera (8-3), Jonny Perrot (8-6) and Max Moynihan (8-4) won in singles competition as the Cards picked up their first win of the season.

Kostansek/Deyak (8-4), Moynihan/Parrot (8-2) and Gomez-Herrera/Lizotte (8-4) won in doubles. BG visits Manchester Central on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9, CONVAL 0

The Cavs shutout ConVal for the second match in a row. Singles winners were Arjun Inakollu (8-3), Sam Anthony (8-0), Jordan Torpey (8-4), Greyson McSeveney (8-0), Dylan Legrow (8-1) and Eli Mazzola (8-0). Anthony/Inakollu (8-1), Torpey/Mazzola (8-1) and Finn Brown/Mason Mizula (8-0) won in doubles action.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL 6, MERRIMACK 3

Wayne Alexander (8-6) and Felix Rattunde (8-3) won in singles. The team of Lucas Goldberg/Rattunde (8-5) won in doubles.

Merrimack visits Pinkerton on Wednesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

NASHUA NORTH 9, CONCORD 0

The Titans sweep Concord for their first win of the season. Mary Pappas (8-5), Sanya Rane (8-1), Clare Tran (8-2), Caitlyn Mamos (8-1), Patricia Rodriguez (8-2) and Brielle Baxter (8-1) picked up singles wins.

Winning in doubles were the teams of Pappas/Tran (8-2), Rane/Mamos (8-1) and Rodriguez/Baxter (8-3). North hosts Manchester Memorial Wednesday.

BEDFORD 9, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The Panthers struggled against the Bulldogs, losing several close games within the matches. Piya Chotski managed to win two games in her match at No. 3 singles for South, which visits Alvirne on Wednesday.
