Milford boys, North boys and girls shine in Eastman Invitational

If you were looking for local track and field performances, you could see plenty of it at Souhegan High School on Saturday in the annual John Eastman Saber Invitational Meet.

Milford captured the boys meet while Portsmouth won the girls. The Spartan boys totaled 77 points, edging Nashua North (71) and third place Winnacunnet (66). Four locals finished 7-10: Alvirne (44), Souhegan (43), Bishop Guertin (38) and Merrimack (35).

In the girls meet, the Clippers totaled 105.50, edging second place North (97). Keene was third (60.50), just a half point better than fourth place Merrimack (60), who was a half point better than fifth place Alvirne (59.50). Bishop Guertin was seventh (34), followed by Souhegan (27.50) and Milford in 10th (21).

BOYS HIGHLIGHTS

The Spartans’ Daniel Sixon won the 800 in 2:02.16 as Milford went 1-2-3-4, Logan Korthals second, Will Whitley third and Grant Skorupan fourth.

Milford’s Avery Wilson captured the 200 in 23.13 seconds and was second in the 100

Not surprising, North’s Darius Smith continued his good start with a trifecta. He won the shot put at 51-8, beating second place Zachariah Rezaoui (43-9), and he also took the discus at 147-0 and then the javelin at 148-4.

The Titans 4×400 relay team of Yaxiel Vazquez, Aaron McNair, Peter Donovan and Gavin Suchecki took second.

For Bishop Guertin, Divine Uzuyem was second in the high jump, and Carson Fischer second in the 3200, ahead of teammate Braden Phemester.

Alvirne’s Jayden Taylor took second in the triple jump, Shawn Boudreau was second in the discus and Joey Marcotte the same in the 300 hurdles.

Souhegan’s foursome of Carson Behn, Cole Hendeson, John Katsel and Brody Smith won the 4×100 relay in 44.29 seconds. Katsel was second in the long jump, Henderson the same in the 110 hurdles.

GIRLS HIGHLIGHTS

North’s Jhanelle Thomas had another winning day, taking the 100 hurdles in 15.35 and the 300 hurdles in 47.71. Thomas, Allison Frye, Tiana Brown and Christina Juris won the 4×100 relay in 50.55, and the foursome of Thomas, Juris, Sarah and Allison Frye won the 4×400 relay in 4:14.12.

North’s Sarah Frye won the triple jump at 34-0.50. Titan Laura White was second in the 1600.

Alvirne’s Petrina Ofori won the high jump at 4-8, ahead of BG’s Audrey Murrin (4-6), and was second in the 100 hurdles as well as the 300 hurdles.

Merrimack’s Mia Getchell won the shot put (33-5). The ‘Hawks’ Lilly Farrell was second in the triple jump, while Milford’s Katherine Demmons was third. Merrimack’s Ella Fong took second in the javelin. Milford’s Keely Giordano was second in the 100.

Souhegan got a win from Samantha Swanbon in the 1600 (5:22.25), and she finished secoon in the 800.

Bishop Guertin’s Anna Fondakowski captured the 3200 in 11:52.38.
