It’s definitely lacrosse season, when three games in just over 24 hours are played at Stellos Stadium.

Tuesday afternoon it was the Merrimack and Nashua High School South boys teams’ turn to take the field, and the Tomahawks had to be happy with their five-goal win in which they held the Panthers to three goals.

“It kind of went how I expected, to be honest,” Merrimack coach Brian Miller said. “We’re young, we struggled at times and other times we looked real sharp. We made some silly mistakes I would expect a young team to make. … Happy we came out with a win, that’s al the matters in the end.”

South coach Will Delanoy was also happy with the way his team played at times.

“I think our defense did pretty well,” Delanoy said. “We started off shaky in the beginning, first game nerves. Once we settled in, we kind of held them to what we knew they were going to do.

“Our strength and our seniority is in our defense. We have a young offense, they made good looks. Just the beginning of the season, a lot to learn from … We’re looking forward to it.”

Speaking of openers, you can’t script one any better than Merrimack baseball’s shutout win. It was also a busy day in local tennis. Here’s a look as spring has definitely sprung.:
