HS Roundup: Tough opening day all around for locals
Itwas more or less a soft open that was hard to take.
A limited number of spring sports games were played on Monday to start the full schedule, but the results for most local teams were tough. But the good news is we’ve only just begun the spring and the snow is hopefully gone for good. Here’s the Mondah rundown:
BASEBALL
PINKERTON 8, ALVIRNE 1
The Broncos fall to the Astros in the season opener. Logan Casey led the offense with two hits and Max Francisco had the only RBI for the locals. Dylan Page pitched well in relief with no earned runs.
Alvirne hosts Concord on Wednesday.
SOFTBALL
PINKERTON 9, ALVIRNE 0
The Broncos last meeting with Pinkerton was memorable, as they upset the Astros on the road in last June’s Division I prelims.
But they’d likely like to forget Monday’s season opener, played in Hudson. Alirne will try to bounce back when it visits Concord on Wednesday
BOYS LACROSSE
TIMBERLANE 18, NASHUA NORTH 3
The Titans were upended by the Owls to start the season. Alec Jenkerson scored two goals and Nick Wilkinson added one. Jace Colon and Josh Parsons made four and five saves respectively. North visits Merrimack on Wednesday.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
SALEM 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 1
The Cardinal open the season with a loss on the road to the Blue Devils. Playing well for the locals were Felix Hoffman (five kills), Will Howell (five kills), Aiden Holt (11 digs), Martin Dormer (10 digs) and Sean Schultz (10 assists). BG visits Farmington on Wednesday.
GIRLS TENNIS
WINNACUNNET 9, MILFORD0
Despite the loss against a much more experienced Winnacunnet team, the Spartan No. 3 doubles tandem of Jasmine Blay and Luren Vander-Hayden played a very competitive 8-5 match.
