HS Roundup: BG second, Souhegan third in girls ski title meets

The Bishop Guertin girls finished second overall to champion Bedford in the Division I Girls Alpine Ski Championships on Monday at Gunstock Mountain Resort.

Meanwhile, Souhegan was third in the Girls Division II Championships held at Crotched Mountain, to highlight the high school day that also included some hockey action and a big win for Alvirne girls hoop.

GIRLS DIVISION I SKIING

Bedford scored 368 in the Giant Slalom, 379 in the Slalom to total 747 points, while the Cards had 690 (342 GS, 348 S). Concord was third at 640.

Locally, Nashua North finished 10th at 510, while Nashua South (217) was 14th and Merrimack (181) was 16th.

The skiers of the day among the locals were Elena Ellia, who won the Giant Slalom with a two-run time of 1:17.60; Nashua North’s Rosalie Neveu, ninth in the GS in 1:21.56, and Nashua South’s Brynn Tefft, third in the Slalom in 1:18.22, just ahead of Ellia in fourth in 1:18.68. Neveu was 14th in 1:24.64. All three will compete in the Meet of Champions on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Mittersill.

The Cards, along with Ellia, were paced in the GS by Arianna Hughes (12th, 1:23.46), and Madison Cail (20th, 1:26.29). Olivia Nestor was 28th.

In the Slalom, besides Ellia, BG’s Cail was 13th (1:24.25), Hughes 17th and Nestor 21st.

Other North point scorers in the Slalom were Sanya Rane 46th, Kaitlyn Frye 47th and Eden Goodman (56th). Olivia McGadden was 41st for South while Ava Lanier was 50th for Merrimack

In the GS, Samantha Nardone was 47th for the Titans. McGadden was 56th for South and Merrimack was paced by Emma Shorette (41st) and Ava Lanier (49th).

GIRLS DIVISION II SKIING

The Sabers scored 326 in the GS and 368 in the Slalom. Kennett finished first overall for the title (759) while Hanover was second at 736.

Locally besides Souhegan, Hollis Brookline (314 GS plus 303 SL for 617) was sixth and Milford (210 GS, 196 SL for 406) was 11th.

In the SL, Saber Lyla Kimball was third in 1:19.34, while Sierra Burke was 15th (1:27.66), Elysse Bell 33rd and Shea Llewellyn 38th.

HB’s Annette Schlunk was 11th in the GS (1:25.50) while Caroline Crawford (23rd), Jenna O’Connor (30th) and Mianda Bergeron (37) also scored for the Cavs. Zoe Rick was 18th (1:29.78) and Ava Kryski (44th) and Landon Weitenbeck (54th) for Milford.

Giant Slalom individual results were not available as of yet.

BOYS HOCKEY

MERRIMACK 2, GOFFSTOWN 1

The Tomahawks got third period goals by Eliot Medlock and Joseph Raymond to rally from a 1-0 deficit and improve to 11-2 atop Division II.

The ‘Hawks host the Lebanon co-op on Wednesday at West Side.

MANCHESTER 7, NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 0

The Kings fell to 2-12 and were outshot 25-11. Goalie Riley Pelletier had 18 saves for the locals, who host Bow on Wednesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ALVIRNE 51, DOVER 44

The Broncos picked up a big win – their seventh in their last nine games and third straight – to improve to 8-6.

Ella Hartson had 17 points, Rachel Allard 16 and Courtney Anderson 10 for Alvirne, which outscored the Green Wave 17-8 in the third quarter to take control.

Alvirne is at Manchester Central-West on Thursday.

DIVISION III BOYS HOOP TOURNEY

Campbell finished as the No. 8 seed at 10-7 and is scheduled to host No 9 Gilford (10-8) today at 6 p.m. today in Litchfield. Top seed Conant (17-1) awaits the winner in Friday’s quarterfinals.

BOYS SKIING POSTPONED

The Division I and II boys Alpine Ski championships were postponed today due to the expected weather. Division II will be Thursday at Cranmore, and Division I on Friday at Crotched Mountain.
