HS Roundup: Titans’ Bolton dive champ; North hoop tips Alvirne

Friday nights are usually owned by high school basketball when the snow is on the ground, and don’t be mistaken, there were plenty of key games last night.

But diving was part of the story as the NHIAA Dive Championships once again saw locals be major factors, and yes, including winning a title at UNH.

In basketball, heartbreak for the Nashua South boys, a tight win for the North boys to extend their streak and a huge win for the South girls on the road. Oh, and the Souhegan boys continue their success streak.

Here is the good and bad news:

BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING

NHIAA DIVE CHAMPIONSHIPS

NORTH’S BOLTON DIVISION I CHAMP

Nashua North’s Dawson Bolton picked up the dive title win with a score of 286.10. North’s David Preston (264.00) was second and South’s Ian Hall finished third (216.25).

In the girls meet South’s Katie Perry (288.85) was runner up behind Salem’s Ryleigh Mahoney (434.95). Ayla Pullen (265.15) was third and Elsie Goyette (219.30) placed in fourth, both representing South.

DIVISION II

Alvirne’s Auri Anderson (270.55) finished second and Gabriella Bunkartas (253.10) placed sixth in girls completion which was one by Oyster River’s Greta Parks (313.45). Hanover’s Samuel Calderood won boys Division II.

BOYS BASKETBALL

NASHUA NORTH 46, ALVIRNE 43

The Titans (11-4) run continues as they defeat the Broncos (7-7) for their seventh consecutive win. Jaden Pena led all scorers with 22 points and Robinson Rodriguez contributed 13 for North. Alex Valenzuela recoded 11 points and Andrew Deely had 10 points and seven rebounds for Alvirne.

North visits Manchester Central on Feb. 16 and Alvirne visits Dover on Tuesday.

KEENE 74, NASHUA SOUTH 72

The Panthers (9-6) lose their third game in a row, when the Black Birds hit a game winning shot at the buzzer. South was led by Joh Caruso (31 points) and Zac Castonguay (24 points). South visits Merrimack on February 16.

HANOVER 59, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 47

The Cavs (4-11) fall for the fifth straight time when they hosted Hanover. Alton Willams had a great game collecting 12 points, 17 rebounds and four assists. Dylan Kelley scored 15 points and James Arthur had nine. HB visits Milford on Tuesday.

CAMPBELL 56, PROSPECT MOUNTAIN 47

Austin McHugh recorded 22 points and eight rebounds with Logan Rice collecting 18 points and nine rebounds in the Cougars win. Tucker Matthews added 10 points in Campbell’s third straight win. Campbell sits at 10-7 to end the regular season.

MANCHESTER WEST 73, MILFORD 59

After battling all night long the Spartans (4-11) could not fend off the Knights, resulting in their fourth straight loss. Kai Lau Quan led the team with 25 points, Will O’Connell had 14 and Ethan Szopa had 10. Milford hosts Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

SOUHEGAN 51, COE-BROWN 40

The Sabers (7-7) hot streak continues as they win their seventh game in a row. Weston Hickman tallied 15 points and Nolan Colby had 12. Souhegan visit ConVal on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 41, KEENE 39

The Panthers (6-9) put an end to their losing streak at three with a close win over the Black Birds. Morgan Gills scored 19 points and Karina O’Donnell had eight points. South hosts Merrimack on February 16.

CAMPBELL 58, PROSPECT MOUNTAIN 54

Haley Swanson had a career night scoring 21 points for the Cougars in their home won against Prospect Mountain. LeAnn Ramos added 17 points to help the offensive effort. Campbell finishes the season at 6-10.

CONCORD CHRISTIAN 50, MILFORD 32

The Spartans (7-8) drop their third straight game, falling to undefeated Concord Christian. Ellianna Nassy (10 points), Avery Fuller (seven points) and Shea Hansen (six points) played well for the locals.

Milford hosts Hollis Brookline on Tuesday.

COE-BROWN 33, SOUHEGAN 20

The Sabers (1-12) fall at home Friday night. Phoebe Faucher scored seven points. Souhegan hosts Kingswood on Monday.
