MILFORD — Pin them once? You’re off to a good start. Pin them seven times? They’re in trouble.

Those pins Thursday night from seven of Hollis Brookline High School’s wrestlers-Jameson Keller (106), Scout Crea (113), Martin Burns (138), Jacob Crithfield (150), Dylan Manley (165), Philip Berke (215), and John McCole (285)-propelled the Cavaliers past Milford in a 55-15 team victory on the Spartans’ home turf.

And it came at the right time.

“I think we had a tough stretch before this,” said HB head coach Brian Bumpus. “We sat down and had a long talk about refocusing… these guys stepped up and did what they had to do to get the win, and it’s always like a rivalry here between the two towns which is great.”

But last night, the rivalry was pretty one-sided.

“We gotta show up,” said Milford head coach Joe Faucher. “Gotta wrestle for six minutes and can’t get pinned. We came out and only wrestled for two minutes and went to our backs and we never saw what would’ve happened if we wrestled for six minutes. They had an on night and we had an off night.”

Five of the Cavaliers seven pins came before the third period of the matches, using early-match energy to wrap up Milford wrestlers towards the edge of the mat.

Though Hollis Brookline had the majority pins, both of Milford’s pins came early from the heavier weight classes. After a pin from Nate Post (175) with 39 seconds remaining in the first period, Eli Wales (190) followed up his teammate, wasting no time with a pin in just 38 seconds through the first period.

“We were dominant in those matches, but the ones we should have lasted the six minutes we got stuck…we have to get them [the opponent] out of their comfort zone and keep beating them a little bit,” said Faucher.

Other victories for HB included a major decision victory for Gavin Turcotte (120), who registered three takedowns and a three-point near fall in the third period alone for the 11-2 victory.

Ryan Sutton (126), Caden Brunson (132), and Cam Nichols (157) all registered decision victories for the Cavaliers, while Milford’s Tyler Ireland (144) won the most energetic match of the night in a 5-4 decision victory over Oliver Damon, with the entirety of the Milford gym on their feet until the final buzzer.
