HS Roundup: Local track teams shine; hockey teams fall

Cold out? That doesn’t stop the local high school sports slate, and especially local track teams who faired well at meets at UNH and Phillips Exeter, or the Milford wrestling team that enjoyed a threepeat in a seacoast tourney.

Ironically on a cold day, the local hockey teams struggled. We’ve got swimming and girls basketball as well:

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

SABER BOYS, PANTHER GIRLS

LEAD WAY AT PHILLIPS EXETER

In the boys race, Souhegan took multiple firsts in a meet that included several locals. Souhegan’s Owen Stine captured the 1500 in 4:12.92 while Cole Henderson was second in the 55 hurdles. The Sabers captured the 4×200 relay and Brody Smith was the high jump winner at 6-2 and John Katsel won the long jump at 19-7.5

Nashua South’s Ethan Schnyer continued his fine season with a first in the 300 (36.05). South’s Dante Castellano was second in the 1500. Michah Allard took fourth in the 600 while the Panthers were third in the 4×200 relay, paced by Schnyer. Elyza Mercado took second in the shot put.

Bishop Guertin’s Carson Fischer took first in the 3000 in 9:12.50, Noah Guarera was second in the 600 and Divne Uzuyem second in the high jump.

Hollis Brookline’s Sam Bruneau captured 55 meter dash in 6.59 seconds and was third in the 300. HB’s Andrew Desmarais was third the long jump.

Alvirne’s Shane Plumley was second in the 300.

In the girls meet, Nashua South’s Nya Musa took the 55 dash (7.37) with Mimi Ortiz third. Both helped the Panthers to a win in the 4×200 relay (1:50.97) with Sara Witta and Nevaeh Eppolito. South’s Norah Gautieri was second in the shot put.

Alvirne’s Petrina Ofori was second in the 300, 55 hurdles and high jump.

BG’s Anna Fondakowski was first in the 1500 in 5:16.17.Guertin’s Anna Sinclair was fifth in the 600.

LOCALS SHINE AT UNH

In the boys meet, Darius Smith captured the shot put at 54-11.25.

North’s Gavin Suchecki was second in the high jump, third in the 600 and the Titans’ 4×400 relay team was third, just head of fourth-place Milford and fifth place Merrimack.

Merrimack’s Luca Kabel was third in the 55 dash, fourth in the 300 while the 4×160 relay team was second,

Milford’s Daniel Sixon third in the 1000.

In the girls meet, Nashua’s Laura White was first in the 1000 in 3:07.02 while Merrimack’s Alexis Best captured the long jump at 17-02.50.

Jhanelle Thomas was second in the 55, just ahead of Merrimack’s Alexa Best who took third (7.50, 7.51).

Thomas was also third in the 300, while North’s Christina Juris was second in the 600. North was second in the 4×160 relay and third in the 4×400.

Merrimack’s Mia Getchel was second in the shot put, and Melanie Bedard was fourth in the 1000.

BOYS HOCKEY

CONCORD 5, BISHOP GUERTIN 1

The Tide got three goals in the second period to break open a 1-1 game as the Cards fell to 5-3-1.

Isaac Idarraga got Guertin’s lone goal in the first period, assisted by James Mantone. BG will look to bounce back net Saturday on the road vs. Pinkerton.

HANOVER 8, NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 0

It’s been a tough stretch for the visiting Kings, who had a long day/trip to Hanover only to drop their fifth straight to fall to 1-7.

South-Pelham hopes to snap their streak on Wednesday night at Winnacunnet.

DOVER 5, MERRIMACK 4

The Tomahawks suffered their first loss in Divsion II thanks to a goal by Dover’s Caleb Marasca with 1:33 left.

It negated a hat trick by the Tomahawks’ Eliot Medlock, while Brayden Guagliumi had a goal and two assists. Connor Dunn had two assists while single assists went to Cam Bellemore and Felx Rattunide.

Now 5-1, the Tomahawks visit North-Souhegan at Conway Arena on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

SPAULDING 5, ALVIRNE-MILFORD 4

The visiting Admirals (4-4-1) also lost a heartbreaker, with the Red Raiders scoring the game-winner with 34 seconds left.

Cade Bouchard, Ryan Ricard, Brandon Ganas and Landon Briand all scored for the locals while Ceddy Beaulieu had three assists and Bryce Larco and Mason Tomkins had a pair of assists.

The Admirals are at Winnacunnet next Saturday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE-DERRYFIELD 10, LACONIA/INTER-LAKES 0

The Warriors got a much needed with to improve to 3-5 with scoring as follows: Charlie Dee (two goals, one assist), Alex May (two goals), Calbe May (goal, assist), Emmett Chretien (goal, assist), Alex Gertz (one goal, two assists), Ben Hazard (goal), Natalie Duncan (goal), Bradley Noble (goal, assist), Kyle Sanborn (three assists), Bryson Geirsch, Elliott Dahill, Aden Escandon and Connor Farnham (one assist each).

The Warriors host Belmont-Gilford at Conway Arena on Wednsday at 8:30 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

WLC GETS PAIR OF CLOSE WINS

The Warriors improved to 8-3 with a 41-39 win over Hindsdale on Friday night and then a 38-36 triumph over Farmington on Saturday morning.

Defense was the key in both. Lexi Bausha had 16 points to lead the Saturday win while Adri Bausha added eight. On Friday, Adri Bausha had 15 while Lexi added 12 and Maddy Labecque with nine. Labrecque and Kelsey Crouse had six points apiece yesterday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

PEMBROKE 61, SOUHEGAN 38 (Friday)

The Sabers had a tough time against the Spartans, with Max Hayes leading the locals with eight points and Weston Hickman with seven. The Sabers are at Bishop Brady on Tuesday.

WRESTLING

MILFORD DOMINATES TOURNEY

The Spartans won the Winnacunnet Dual Meet Tournament for the third straight year, going 4-0 in matches and outscored opponents 224-64.

Milford beat Mt. Pleasant 66-0, Campbell 71-9, Winnacunnet 49-19 and got by Exeter 38-36.

J.J. Enright, Colton Schuster, Evan O’Connell and Brandon Leeman led the way with four wins. Kiki Lordan, Tanner Herbert, Nate Post, Eli Wales and Ryan Lewis all had three wins.

Double winners were Tyler Ireland, Kyle LaJoie, Phil Writhgt and Brendan Mazerall, wnd Cam Stickney pickd up a win for the Spartans, who host Hollis Brookline on Wednesday.

BG WINS A PAIR

The Cards beat Newport 27-6 and John Stark 42-39, as Jack Kaler (120) and James Algeo (132) led the way with a pair of wins.

BG single winners were Austin Steinruck (106), Colin Foley (138), John Forcier (144), Jack Foster (150), Nick Rivera (165), Sam Ronzio (175), Liam Connerty (190) and Bishop Kearns (285).

BOYS & GIRLS SWIMMING

HOLLIS BROOKLINE TEAMS SPLIT

The HB boys and girls swim teams each split with their two opponents on Saturday with some good showings.

The girls bested Londonderry 85-44, but fell in a squeaker 74-71 to St. Thomas. Leading the Cavalier girls was Cambria Jewett, winning the 200 free with Mackenzie Talbot winning the 200 IM and 100 free.

The Cavaliers swept the 100 free with Teal-Lou Morel second and Lauren Kennedy third. Alexis Dattis won the 50 free and the Medley relay of Cambria Jewett, Teal-Lou Morel, Alexis Dattis and Mackenzie Talbot besting their last time in the event and taking first place.

In the boys meet, HB beat St. Thomas 63-45 but fell to Londonderry, 76-60.

Leading the boys team was Dylan Jewett in the 200 IM and 100 back. Also placing first was Oliver Spencer in the 50 free and Jack Ablondi in the 100 breast stroke.

The Medley relay of Dylan Jewett, Andrew Rezzarday, Winston Feeney and Jack Ablondi took first as well as the 400 free relay of Dylan Jewett Andrew Rezzarday, Jack Ablondi and Oliver Spencer.
