HS Roundup: Saber girls get first win; North-Souhegan skaters on top

If you like variety, you’ll love Wednesday’s local high school recap, the highlight of which could be the Souhegan High School girls basketball team getting its first win of the season, Milford boys snapping a losing streak, and the Milford wrestling team rolling.

Meanwhile, it was not a good night for Nashua basketball. Here are the mixed results:

BOYS HOCKEY

NASHUA NORTH-SOUHEGAN 4, MANCHESTER C0-OP 1

The Saber-Titans (3-3) got back on the winning track vs. the Central-West-Memorial combo at JFK Coliseum as Jacob Landry had a hat trick and Chase McBride a goal.

Zach Veilleux played well in goal for North-Souhegan, which hosts Merrimack on Monday.

BOW 3, NASHUA SOUTH-PELHAM 1

The Kings had a 1-0 lead after one but the Falcons got two in the second and an empty netter in the third at Conway Arena.

Brendon Doughty got South-Pelham’s lone goal, assisted by Braedyn Thyne. Landon Westcott got two goals for Bow.

The Kings (1-6) hope to snap their four-game slide at Hanover on Saturday.

KINGSWOOD 4, HOLLIS BROOKLINE-DERRYFIELD 0

The Warriors fell to 2-5 in Division III, despite 20 saves by goalie Rachel Irving. HBDS hosts Laconia on Saturday at Conway Arena.

BOYS BASKETBALL

PORTSMOUTH 67, BISHOP GUERTIN 58

The Cardinals (2-6) fall on the road in their contest against the Clippers. Logan Lowney played well offensively tallying 21 points and Eli Youssef had 10. BG hosts Merrimack on Friday.

SANBORN 63, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 54

The Cavs (3-6) fell short after Sanborn stretched their lead with less than one minute left. Alton Williams had a phenomenal game recording 21 points and 14 rebounds. Dylan Kelley and Cam Kupp each scored 10 points. HB visits John Stark on Friday.

MILFORD 64, LACONIA 54

The Spartans (3-5) snap their four game losing streak with an upset win over the Sachems. Kai LauQuan hit seven three-pointers and finished with 27 points. Will O’Connell had a solid night with 15 points followed by Will White delivering 11. Kenyon Sora, Ethan Szopa, Josh Berry and Zack Zaremba led the defensive unit. Milford hosts Pelham on Friday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SOUHEGAN 29, DERRYFIELD 28 (OT)

Caroline Drum hit the game winning 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Sabers (1-5) pick up that elusive first win of the season in a low scoring affair that went into overtime.

Lanai Hickman hit the game tying two pointer with 12 seconds left in regulation. Mishka Tower scored 11 points and Drum finished with nine. Souhegan visits Pembroke on Friday.

SALEM 73, NASHUA SOUTH 33

The Panthers drop to 3-5 after a big loss to the Blue Devils. Morgan Gillis and Nicole DeJesus score 10 and nine points respectively. South visits Nashua North on Friday.

EXETER 70, NASHUA NORTH 39

The Titans (3-5) lose their third game in a row when they visited the Blue Hawks. Lily Small collected 10 points and Sumer St. Pierre had nine. North hosts Nashua South on Friday.

PORTSMOUTH 52, BISHOP GUERTIN 35

The Cardinals couldn’t keep pace with Clippers and drop to 2-5. Thalia Drapeau scored 11 points, Jas Rosario added nine and Maggie Gallagher had eight. BG visits Merrimack on Friday.

SPAULDING 55, MERRIMACK 51

The Tomahawks fall to 0-8 on the season after a loss to Spaulding. Gianna Maglio netted 20 points and Mia Getchell had 11. Merrimack hosts Bishop Guertin on Friday.

WRESTLING

BISHOP GUERTIN 52, WINNACUNNET 30

The Cardinals got pins from Jack Kalaer (120), James Algeo (132, John Forcier (144), Paulo Vazquez (157), Nick Rivera (165), Will Murphy (175) and Bishop Kearns (pin). Austin Steinruck got a 14-6 decision at 106.

CONCORD 60, NASHUA SOUTH 18

The Panthers managed wins by Benjamin Byrne at 144 (pin), Robert Perez at 150 (11-8 decision), Diego Dominguez at 157 (pin) and Conor Whitman at 165 (7-0 decision).

PINKERTON 64, NASHUA NORTH 9

Despite the loss the Titans managed wins by Owen Gagnon at 106 (pin) and Gavin Page at 126 (9-2 decision).

GOFFSTOWN 60, MERRIMACK 15

The Tomahawks had trouble taming the Grizzlies on Wednesday. Connor Marshall (pin), Grant Descheneaux (pin) and Brendan Curley (decision 4-2) picked up wins for the locals.

MILFORD 66, MANCHESTER WEST 6

The Spartans dominated West in Wednesday night’s matchup. Winning their matches were JJ Enright (forfeit), Kiki Lordan (pin), Colton Schuster (pin), Kane Davis (decision 4-2), Zach Hellie (forfeit), Kyle LaJoie (pin), Tyler Ireland (pin), Phil Wrighy (pin), Evan O’Connell (decision 7-0), Nate Post (pin), Eli Wales (pin) and Brandon Leeman (pin).
