HS Roundup: North, Campbell girls fall short on road

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Dec 19, 2023

It's defense like this by Nashua North's Summer St. Pierre, right, in last year's North-South game that almost helped the Titans get an upset over Windham on Monday night, but the Jaguars prevailed. The name of the game is scoring points, but both the Nashua High School North and Campbell girls basketball teams just weren’t able to get enough offense going on Monday night

Neither were able to crack the 30-point mark en route to tough losses, but in North’s case, Titans coach Curt Dutilley liked what he saw from his team, especially defensively.

“A great team effort against an outstanding Windham team,” he said. “We held their top scorer to six points and played an overall outstanding defensive game. Came up a little short on the offensive end being outsized significantly at every position.”

The other positive from last night’s brief slate? The Campbell boys hoop team played its best game of the season getting a win.

Here you go:

GIRLS BASKETBALL

WINDHAM 39, NASHUA NORTH 28

The 3-0 Jaguars, who visit Nashua South tonight, pulled away by outscoring the visiting Titans 13-4 in the final quarter after North was within 26-24 after three periods.

Lilly Small led North (1-2) with 10 points while Angie King had seven and Summer St. Pierre six. North hosts Concord on Thursday.

“All in all,” Dutilley said, “a tremendous game for us to build on and carry this experience forward.”

MONADNOCK 38, CAMPBELL 13

The visiting Cougars fell to 1-3 while junior guards Abby Guerrette and Callie Hoover led all scorers with four and three points, respectively.

Campbell heads to Somersworth on Thursday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

CAMPBELL 62, MONADNOCK 45

The Cougars improved to 2-2 playing solid defense while being without senior captain Austin McHugh.

Tucker Matthews sparked the win with 20 points, as did Jack Breton with 19 poins and 11 rebounds. Matthew Haley added 11 points while Jashawn Hawkins played superb defense. Campbell hosts Somersworth at 6 pm. on Thursday.
