HS Roundup: Cavaliers, Cougars get season’s first wins
It was a first for two local high school girls basketball teams on Thursday night. As in wins.
Both the Hollis Brookline and Campbell girls squads picked up their first wins of the season, both on their home floors. For HB it was even more special as it was new coach Heidi Moore’s first career varsity win. She took over the team after a stint as the Cavs’ JV coach.
Here are the details:
GIRLS BASKETBALL
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 43, PLYMOUTH 32
The Cavaliers got 15 points from Samantha Disco while Grace Dow had nine points and nine rebounds as HB evened its record at 1-1.
Emily Tebbetts added seven points and Ana O’Donnell and Julia Robbins five each. Payton Dunn had two points.
HB, which led 23-10 at the half and then pulled away after Plymouth closed to within 24-19 in the third, had 30 rebounds but also an amazing 18 steals in the game and shot 5 of 13 from 3-point range, with three of them by Disco.
HB is at Kingswood on Tuesday.
CAMPBELL 59, SOMERSWORTH 15
The Cougars got 12 points from Abigail Guerrette while freshman Katherine Fluet added eight. Campbell had 12 players in the scoring column while playing an all-around team effort on the defensive end.
It was the second straight night with a game for the Cougars (1-2), who can now get a few nights off before visiting Monadnock on Monday.
TONIGHT’S KEY GAMES
Nashua South (0-1)has its boys home opener vs. Londonderry at 6:30, while at Nashua North, an alum returns home as former Titan Ray Farmer, who was also a standout at the now-closed Daniel Webster College, brings the Trinity team now coaches to Titans Gym.
Meanwhile, new BG girls hoop coach Olivia Orlando has her first home game as the 0-1 Cards host Concord at 6 p.m.
