Wrestling Roundup: South, BG rolls, but tough opener for others
It was a tough Opening Night for some of the local high school wrestling teams, but not Nashua South, Bishop Guertin, or Hollis Brookline as the regular season is now underway.
Here’s a look:
NASHUA SOUTH 54, MANCESTER CENTRAL 9
The Panthers cruised with wins by John McDevitt at 138 (pin), Ben Byrne at 144 (pin), Robert Perez at 165 (pin), Connor Whitman at 190 (pin), and Landon Levesque at 215 (pin).
BISHOP GUERTIN 54, MANCHESTER WEST 12
The Cardinals cruised in their opener with pin wins by Austin Steinruck (113), Jack Kaler (120), John Forcier (138), James Algeo (144), Jack Foster (150), Paulo Vazquez (157), Will Murphy (175) and Liam Connerty (190).
BEDFORD 62, NASHUA NORTH 16
The Titans wrestled hard but in the end Bedford had the advantage in the season opener for both. North did get early wins by Owen Gagnon at 106 (pin) and Caleb Smith at 126 (rally for 20-8 decision).
Steven Rosario also wrestled hard at 175 while Jonathan Medrano lost a close 7-6 decision at 190.
WINNACUNNET 53, MERRIMACK 21
Merrimack winners included Grant Descheneaux picked up a 4-2 decision at 138, while Brendan Curley won by fall at 165 as did Chase Emond at 106.
Connor Sayball got a forfeit win at 126.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 50, ALVIRNE 30
The Cavs got pins from Ryan Sutton (126), Caden Bruseo (132), Ollie Darmon (144), Jake Critchfield (150) and John McCole (285). Other wins were by Gavin Turcotte (120) and Dylan Manley (157).
GOFFSTOWN 67, MILFORD 9
It was a tough opener for the Spartans but theydid get wins by Kyle LaJoie at 132 (pin) and Evan O’Connell at 150 by decision.
