Nashua South boys finish seventh in New Englands XC

The Nashua High School South’s impressive boys cross country season ended Saturday with an impressive seventh place finish in the 88th New England Championships at the Troy Howard Middle School Course in Belfast, Me.

The Panthers, who had 282 points, weren’t the top New Hampshire school, however, as Hanover totaled 255. Pinkerton was 14th and Bedford 16th. Locally, Souhegan was 21st (480). Ridgefield, Conn. was the champion with 57 points.

Bishop Guertin’s Matt Giardina, the individual state champion, wasn’t the top NH finisher in this race, either. He came in 22nd with a time of 16:05.73, but Keene’s Sullivan Sturtz was fourth overall in 15:41.39 and Bedford’s Jacob Redman was 15th (15:57.35).

For South, Dante Castellano was again tops, coming in 34th in 16:13.70. Daniel Byrne was 47th (16:25.65) and Andrew Byrne was 80th.

Taloosh Anderson led Souhegan, placing 88th. Guertin’s Carson Fischer was 95th.

In the girls race, Oyster River was second overall with 130 points, behind winner Champlain Valley Union of Vermont with 97 points. Pinkerton was third at 198. There were no local teams in the race, but Nashua North’s Laura White finished 31st overall in 18:45.0
