The games in the final week of the high school regular season take on special meaning as local teams try to jockey for position in the standings with the tournaments approaching.
The Nashua North girls soccer team took a big step with a win in its regular season finale, and the Bishop Guertin and Nashua South girls volleyball teams , among others, picked up big wins. Plus for the second time this week, there was a local carer milestone.
Here’s a look at what was for most a Winning Wednesday:
GIRLS SOCCER
NASHUA NORTH 2, MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 0
Allison Frye scored both goals for the Titans, who finish the regular season at 7-7-2 and wait to see how the tourney seedings shake out.
Sarah Frye assisted on one of the goals, while Rachel Gauthier earned the shuout in goal with several big saves.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
BISHOP GUERTIN 3, DOVER 2
Libero Veronic Gomez celebrated her 500th caree dig and the Cardinals squeezed out a 15-12 fifth set win after the teams split the first four 19-25, 25-16, 25-18, 17-25.
Arika Coravos, Kay Cederquist and Brooke Partridge also played well for red hot BG,now 10-7 after its fifth straight win. The Cards wrap up the regular season at Alvirne tonight.
NASHUA SOUTH 3, TIMBERLANE 0
The Panthers moved to 8-9 with a 25-15, 25-18, 29-27 sweep as four seniors led the way on Senior Night: Morgan Gillis (two aces, three kills, seven digs), Kim Burgos (nine digs), Paige Oulette (five kills, two blocks, five digs) and Sophia Miranda (four aces, eight digs, 12 assists).
South wraps up the regular season vs. Bedford at home on Friday.
MERRIMACK 3, WINNACUNNET 0
The Tomahawks inproved to 6-11 with a 31-29, 25-9, 25-18 home sweep of the Warriors. Sam Lyna had nine assists with one ace while Harley Twofoot had 17 hits and two aces.
Lily Petrocelli added 11 kills, three assists, two blocks and two aces while julie Bradley (13 kills, two blocks, two aces) and Amelia Walker (seven kills, three aces) also had big nights.
Merrimack will wrap up the season Friday at Manchester Memorial.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, LONDONDERRY 0
The Cavaliers are now 15-2 after a 25-23,25-21, 25-19 sweep, led by Annette Schlunk’s 11 kills and 10 digs.
Other key Cavaliers included Malaya Colena (three aces, 11 digs), Anika DiVirgilio (10 digs) and Maia Schnieder (two aces, seven digs).
HB wraps up the season tonight at Nashua North.
MILFORD 3, MANCHESTER WEST 1
The Spartans (8-7) took the first two sets 25-14, 25-19 and wrapped it up with a 25-19 fourth set victory. West had stayed alive with a 25-19 third set win.
Freshman Skyla Salemi had a good night with seven kills and two aces. Other key contributors included Abby Krulis (eight kills, one ace, six digs), Paige Davis (33 digs, two assists, two aces), Savannah Watson (seven ills, five aces, 14 digs), Piper Greenhalgh (six kills, one ace, 12 digs) and Hannah Harringon (20 assiss, 10 digs, one kill, four aces).
Milford wraps up the regular season Friday vs. St. Thomas.
