HS Roundup: BG survives at Salem, tough losses for North, South

It was an interesting day Thursday in local high school girls soccer. A tough doubleheader took place at Stellos Stadium with Nashua North and South both suffering one-goal defeats; Bishop Guertin won a tight one at Salem and Milford won in a rout.

Also, read on and you’ll see how the BG girls volleyball team’s last 24 hours went. And break up the Hollis Brookline field hockey team, who haven’t lost in over three weeks.

Here’s a look:

GIRLS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 1, SALEM 0

It was a struggle for the visIting Cards but Martha Lord was able to score the game’s only goal as they improved to 9-1. Salem fell to 6-2-2.

Zoe Horton-Sousa got the assist for BG, which takes on Nashua South at Stellos Stadium on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

CONCORD 1, NASHUA SOUTH 0

The host Panthers have fallen on tough times as they are now 5-5 after dropping their fourth straight. They’ll try to turn things around Saturday vs. BG at Stellos.

LONDONDERRY 2, NASHUA NORTH 1

It was a tough loss for the Titans, who fell to 2-5-2 while Londonderry is now 4-7. North hosts Portsmouth on Monday at Stellos.

MILFORD 7, PLYMOUTH 0

Alina St. George scored twice and assisted on two of Claire Cote’s four goals as the Spartans improved to 3-5-2.

Keely Giordono added another score while Spartans keeper Trinity Milner had one save. Milford is at Keene on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

ALVIRNE 3, TIMBERLANE 1

Garrett Howard paced the win with a goal and an assist for the Broncos, who also got goals from Matt Branco and James Dlubac.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, WINNACUNNET 0

The Cardinals won their second match in 24 hours with a 25-21, 25-14, 25-15 sweep to improve to 5-6

Setter Brooke Partridge and outside hitters Akira Coravos, Allison Marino and Katy Cederquist all played well.

A day earlier BG swept Timberlane 3-0 with Bella Nutting, Coravos, Marino and Cederquist leading the way. Guertin will host Portsmouth on Monday.

WINDHAM 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2

The visiting Cavs (8-2) lost in a tight fifth set, 16-14, after battling back from down 2-0 with wins in sets three (25-21) and four (28-26).

Kate Berrigan had 13 kills, three blocks and an ace to pace HB. Lolly Adair (10 kills, four blocks, two aces), Annette Schlunk (13 kills, an ace), Libby Getter (53 assists) and Maia Schnieder (20 digs, five aces) were other key contributors. Windham, which took the first two sets 25-20, 25-21, improved to 6-4.

The Cavaliers host Exeter on Monday.

FIELD HOCKEY

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1, CONVAL 0

The Cavaliers winning ways continued as Emily Tebbetts’ goal, set up by Nyah Jernberg, was their eighth straight.

Now 8-2, HB hosts Derryfield on Monday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 2, KEENE 1

The Cardinals finished a game that had been called a couple of weeks earlier with them up 2-0. Keene scored yesterday in the resumption but that was it. BG plays at Memorial tonight.

GOLF

BG THIRD IN TRI MATCH

The Cards totaled 207, four shots behind Salen (203) and Dover (192) at Salem’s Campbell’s Scottish Highlands.

Owen Murphy led BG with a 36 while Ella Graham and Owen King each had a 41. Maria Tribou added a 43 and Joe DeKarski a 46.
