HS Roundup: Merrimack edges BG in 2 OTs; HB teams win

There was drama aplenty at Stellos Stadium on Thursday. It may have been a light game on the schedule but the finish of the Bishop Guertin-Merrimack boys soccer game was one to see — similar to BG’s double overtime game on Saturday, but with a different result.
Meahwile, the Hollis Brookline soccer teams keep plugging away. Here are the details of a not-so-busy Thursday locally:
BOYS SOCCER
MERRIMACK 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 2 (2 OT)
Danyil Kovryzhenko scored late in regulation to send the game to overtime and then got the game winner inside of two minutes remaining in the second OT at Stellos Stadium as the Tomahawks snapped a two-game skid to even their record at 4-4. Luca Kabel also scored for the ‘Hawks.
Rayan Hameed scored both BG goals in the fifth and 32nd minutes, assists going to Colin Mills and Kyle Mack, and the Cards just missed scoring on a corner kick midway through the second overtime.
BG is now 1-6-1 and takes on Nashua North at Stellos Monday at 4 p.m.
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6, LACONIA 1
The visiting Cavaliers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back as Ben Dufoe and JohnPaul Torgersen each got two goals while Colin Magnuszewski and Kaua Ferreira had single tallies.
Assists on the day went to Parker Cheyne with three while Sam Alexander and Ryan Wisbey had one each.
Now 5-3, HB will host Pelham Saturday at 10 a.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
HOLLIS BROOKLINE 2, KENNETT 0
The Cavaliers continue their winning ways, improving to 7-0 thanks to unassisted goals by Ellie Snoke and Sienna Anderson.
Mya Blackman had one save for HB, which hosts Pelham tonight at 7 in a rematch of last year’s semifinals.
GOLF
HOLLIS BROOKLINE SECOND, MILFORD THIRD
The Cavaliers totaled 220, far behind tri-match winner St. Thomas (194) while Milford was third (251) at Overlook.
Travis LaFontaine shot a 40 and Ben George 42 to lead the Cavs, while the Spartans were paced by Alex Johnson (43) and Jack Bastarache (47).
