There’s been a taste of high school tournament action with the NHIAA tennis tournaments and Division track and field champioships, but this week we get into the full main course with the start of the baseball, softball, and boys and girls lacrosse tourneys.

Here is a look at where the locals will be as the official pairings were released on Monday:

BASEBALL

In Division I, Thursday No. 9 Nashua South (11-8) will find its way to face No. 8 Bedford, as expected, while No. 10 Bishop Guertin (11-9) will travel to face No. 7 Concord (x-x) and No. 11 Nashua North (9-9) travels to take on No.6 Portsmouth. If South wins, its reward is a quarterfinal at No. 1 Londonderry; BG would face the winner of No. 2 Exeter vs. No. 15 Trinity (and play at home if it’s Trinity) while North would face either No. 3 Pinkerton or No. 14 Windham. In the regular season, North edged Portsmouth 4-3, South beat Bedford 16-6 and Concord routed BG 18-1.

It will be interesting to see how the two locals in Division II fare. Red-hot No. 5 Souhegan will host No. 12 Sanborn in a prelim, and then if win, travel to take on either No. 4 Kingswood or stay home to face No. 13 Lebanon. The Sabers beat Sanborn 8-1 during the season.

Hollis Brookline gets a first round bye courtesy of its second seed, and on Saturday will face the winner of the No. 7 Bow vs. No. 10 Pelham. HB didn’t play Bow but bested Pelham twice, 5-3 and 13-0.

In Division III, No. 4 Campbell (14-2) will host No. 13 Inter-Lakes, a team it beat 8-6 back on May 10. If they win, the Cougars will host a quarterfinal Saturday vs. either No. 5 Prospect Mountain or No. 12 Somersworth. They are in the semifinal bracket with No. 1 Monadnock.

SOFTBALL

Three area Division I teams are in the tourney, and, like baseball, all are on the road. Alvirne was the top local as the No. 10 seed and will go to face No.7; No. 12 Merrimack vists No. 5 Londonderry, and No. 13 Bishop Guertin heads to No. 4 Salem. If BG and Merrimack win, they would face each other in an all local quarterfinal. If Alvirne wins, it’s reward is to travel to No. 2 defending champion Exeter. The Broncos beat Pinkerton 4-1 in their season opener; BG bowed to Salem 11-6 and Merrimack fell to Londonderry 7-3.

In Division II, Hollis Brookline finished as the fourth seed and will host No. 13 Laconia, and the Cavs could host No. 5 Oyster River or No. 12 Pelham in Saturday’s quarterfinals if successful.

No. 6 Campbell will host No. 11 Pembroke, and if the Cougars win, they will travel to No. 3 John Stark on Saturday in the quarters.

Wilton-Lyndeborough is back in the tourney, and the No. 8 Warriors host No. 9 Pittsburg-Canaan in the prelims Wednesday. Should they win, they’ll have to travel to face No. 1 Woodsville on Saturday. WLC played neither in the regular season.

BOYS LACROSSE

Division I, with the fewest teams, moves right to the quarterfinals on Saturday, and No. 1 Bishop Guertin will host No. 8 Concord, while No. 5 Merrimack is at No. 4 Bedford. The winners of those games meet in the semifinals next week.

In Division II, as expected it’s an all local prelim between No. 8 Hollis Brookline and No. 9 Souhegan on Thursday in Hollis. The winner advances to face No. 1 Portsmouth on Saturday. Alvirne is No. 11 and will travel to face St. Thomas of Dover; the winner gets either a home gamve vs. Hanover or a road trip to No. 3 Timberlane on Saturday.

Division III second seed Campbell gets a first-round bye and will and up on Saturday hosting the winner of the prelim between No. 7 Coe-Brown and No. 10 Bishop Brady. The Cougars seem to be on a possible collision course with No. 3 Pelham in next week’s semifinals.

GIRLS LACROSSE

The Division I tourney starts today with a play-in game between No. 8 Merrimack and No. 9 Exeter at Merrimack’s Student Memorial Field at 5:15 p.m. The winner visits No. 1 Bedford (15-1, unbeaten in-state) in Thursday’s quarters.

Nashua South and Bishop Guertin will be playing in the quarters on Thursday with interesting rematches. No. 4 South (14-4) hosts No. 5 Pinkerton (12-5) at Stellos Stadium while No. 6 Bishop Guertin had to travel to take on No. 3 Dover. The Cards beat Dover 17-11 a couple of weeks ago while the Panthers beat Pinkerton 16-9. No. 7 Souhegan has to travel to No. 2 Portsmouth in the quarters, and the Sabers have lost twice already to the Clippers, 21-9 and then 17-3 just last week.

Guertin and Portsmouth are in the same bracket for what would be an interesting semifinal on Saturday at Exeter’s Bill Ball Stadium at 5 p.m.

Division II’s Hollis Brookline gets a first round bye and will host either No. 6 Goffstown or No. 11 Kingswood in Thursday’s quarterfinals. A win puts the Cavs in Saturday’s semis at Stellos Stadium, likely against No. 2 Windham.
