HS Roundup: Cardinals, Broncos end regular season in style

That’s a wrap — well, almost. There are a couple of Merrimack games today and boys volleyball games early next week, but the bulk of the high school spring regular season is over, and some local teams like the Alvirne baseball and softball teams plus the Bishop Guertin baseball team have to be pretty happy with how it ended.

Let’s take a look at a Fun Friday:

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 4, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 3

The Cardinals defeat Memorial to finish the season 11-9. Sam Franco got the win pitching one inning, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out one.

Dominic Monico pitched four innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and struck out two. BG was led offensively by Brandon Rogers (two hits), AJ Holmes (hit, run, RBI) and Luke Anderson (hit, two runs).

BEDFORD 9, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans got shutout by the Bulldogs to finish the regular season with a record of 9-9. Derek Finlay had the only hit for North.

PORTSMOUTH 11, NASHUA SOUTH 5

The Panthers finish their regular season at 11-8 after their loss to the Clippers. Isaiah Headquist had a triple and a RBI and Devin Sawyer added a triple.

ALVIRNE 11, MERRIMACK 4

The Broncos end their five-game losing streak with a win over the Tomahawks (2-15). Charlie Crawford (three hits, run, RBI), Craig Pederson (three hits, two runs, two RBIs), Reece Baker (hit, run, two RBIs), Michael Nemeth (hit, run, two RBIs), Kyle Dufour (two hits, run, two RBIs) and Antonio Vallante (two innings pitched, hit, three strikeouts) led the way for Alvirne.

Playing well for Merrimack were Garron Brown (two hits, run, RBI), Aiden Centrella (hit, two RBIs) and Evan Sousa (hit, RBI).

Alvirne ends the season at 4-14 and Merrimack visits Keene on Saturday.

SOFTBALL

BEDFORD 14, NASHUA NORTH 7

The Titans may have finished an 0-18 season, but they had the offense working on Friday. Hope Blondin pitched two and a half innings earning one strikeout and Taylor Joyal pitched the rest of the way with two strikeouts.

Sam Small had three hits and four runs. Blondin (two hits), Sam Hall (two hits), Joyal (run), Nicki Gates (two hits) and Aaralyn Lopez (hit) played well for the locals.

ALVIRNE 3, MERRIMACK 2

The Broncos end their season with a close win over the Tomahawks (8-9). Lily Dionne, Marissa Nelson, Hayden Stuart and Katie Coolidge played well offensively for Merrimack. Avery Hui allowed four hits and struck out four. Alvirne finishes at 11-7 and Merrimack hosts Keene on Saturday.

BOYS LACROSSE

MERRIMACK 15, NASHUA SOUTH 4

The Tomahawks win decisively over the Panthers to end the regular season. Leading Merrimack’s offense were Trent Jackson (two goals, assist), Jackson Forbes (two goals, assist), Max Giles (goal, two assists), Kyle Dunn (three goals, two assists), Conor Dunn (two assists), Ryan Rezendes (two goals), Jake Miller (first varsity goal), Reimello Hyde (first varsity goal), Gavin Hickey (first varsity goal) and Shea Egan (goal). Nolan Anderson and Mason Tremblay had four and three saves respectively.

South’s Beau Dubois scored two goals and Jake Lynn made 10 saves. Merrimack ends with a 10-5 record and South finishes at 3-15.

ST. THOMAS 19, SOUHEGAN 3

Ayden McGrath, Owen Nolek and J.J. Bright got the goals for Souhegan, which finished the Division II regular season at 9-7.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 14, MERRIMACK 7

The Panthers finish the regular season by doubling up the Tomahawks. Leading the offense were Ella Benzekri (six goals, two assists), Karina O’Donnell (three goals, assist), Maizie Barker (three goals), Morgan Udzanovich (goal) and Maddy Matylewski (goal). Keira Walsh (seven saves), Abbey Benotti, Brynn Tefft, Brady Murray, Ava Foss and Maddie Berthiaume led the defense. South finishes the season with a record of 14-4 and Merrimack ends at 7-8.
