HS Roundup: Spartans get upset win; Panther nines fall

The games get important this time of year for local high school teams, and Friday was no exception. Just as the Milford baseball team, which recorded a stunning upset. Or the Alvirne softball team, which is on a roll.

Of course, there were some tough losses, too; not to mention a special Senior Night for Souhegan boys lacrosse.

BASEBALL

WINDHAM 4, NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Panthers sit at 9-7 after their loss to the Jaguars. Jake O’Connor pitched three and one-third inning, allowing one hit and striking out three. South visits Winnacunnet on Monday.

CENTRAL-WEST 5, ALVIRNE 2

The Broncos took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with RBIs going to Antonio Vallante and Reece Baker (2 for 3), but couldn’t hold it.Vallante took the loss on the mound, hurt by five walks, a couple of errors to go with four hits allowed.

Alvirne is now 3-12 heading into the season’s final week, beginning with a home game Monday vs. Keene.

PROSPECT MOUNTAIN 4, CAMPBELL 3

The Cougars (12-2) 11 game winning streak was snapped Friday in extra innings. Jack Kidwell hit a two run homer in third and Braydon White had two hits. Logan Daigle threw six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and White was charged with the loss. Campbell hosts Newfound on Monday.

MILFORD 11, HANOVER 6

The Spartans (6-8) end Hanover’s bid for an undefeated season with a big win Friday afternoon. Trice Cote (run) and Logan Howard (three runs, two RBIs) led the 16 hit attack for Milford, each getting three hits. Mike Lima and Colin Williams had two RBIs apiece. Cote got the win, going five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three. Milford visits Hollis Brookline on Monday.

SOFTBALL

WINDHAM 10, NASHUA SOUTH 7

The Panthers (4-11) let the game slip away early and resulted in a loss to the Jaguars. Morgan Gillis (homerun), Catherine Marvin (two hits), Natalia Rogers (two hits), Jillian Daley (sac fly) and Brooke Berger (double) helped the offensive side. South collected 10 hits. Daley threw two innings, allowing ten runs on eight hits and striking out two. Marvin pitched four innings in relief. South hosts Winnacunnet on Monday.

ALVIRNE 16, MANCHESTER CENTRAL 1

Faith Cestrone and Skye Merrow each had four hits, while Cori Sevigny totaled three hits. Mackenzie Pooler pitched five innings, allowing two hits and striking out six. Alvirne (9-6) visits Keene on Monday.

KINGSWOOD 3, CAMPBELL 1

The Cougars (10-5) end up on the losing end of a pitcher’s duel. Teresa Ivas had a great game on the mound striking out 15. Sophia Romano, Abby Delia (sac bunt) and Juliano Pinciaro (RBI) were the bright spots for the locals. Campbell hosts Coe-Brown on May 26.

BOYS LACROSSE

BEDFORD 19, NASHUA SOUTH 2

Beau Dubois scored the Panthers (3-13) two goals in their loss to the Bulldogs. Broden Landsteiner and Tyler Benzekri each had an assist. South hosts Exeter on Monday.

DOVER 12, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Titans fall to 5-11 after their loss to Dover. Autin Kaminaris and Jack Peters had one goal apiece, while Jace Colon and Ashton Carroll each had five saves. North visits Pinkerton on Monday.

MERRIMACK 15, SALEM 3

Kyle Dunn tallies four goals and five assists to improve the Tomahawks record to 9-3. Ryan Rezendes (four goals, three assists), Jackson Forbes (three goals, three assists), Max Giles (goal, assist), Trent Jackson (assist), Conor Dunn (goal, three assists), Henry Tobin (assist) and Nolan Anderson (two saves) played well in the win. Merrimack hosts Bedford on Monday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 12, HANOVER 6

Ben Dufoe (five goals, two assists) picked up seven points, as the Cavs (9-6) double up Hanover. Others playing well for HB were Noah Taylor (two goals, assist), Connor Cook (assist), Tommy Anderson (two goals, assist), JP Torgersen (goal), Andrew Torgersen (goal), Noah Natalino (goal), Deegan Herrera (assist) and Charlie Dee (eight saves). HB visits Goffstown on Wednesday.

SOUHEGAN 11, HILLSBORO-DEERING 4

Ayden McGrath led the Sabers with four goals, while Cole Manning added a pair with five assists. A.J. Hawkes and Maddux McGrath each had a pair and Zach Bartlett added a goal. Goalie Josh Dupuis also played well.

It was a special Senior Night for Souhegan, which honored the memory of a player, Chandler Leo, was set to enter his senior year before passing away tragically last summer. His family were presented with his game jerseys.

LACONIA 7, MILFORD 4

The Spartans (1-12) drop their second game in a row on Friday. Kaleb Francoeur scored two goals; Chuck Urda added a goal and two assists, Alex Berube had a goal and Landon Braind added an assist. Harris Jones made 14 saves in net. Milford visits Plymouth on Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

BEDFORD 13, NASHUA SOUTH 8

The Panthers (11-4) fall to the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon. Playing well for the locals were Keira Walsh (eight saves), Ella Benzekri (five goals, assist), Maren Lowell (goal, two assists), Karina O’Donnell (goal), Anna Pasquale (goal), Morgan Udzanovich (assist), Brynn Tefft, Brady Murray and Abbey Benotti. Visits Exeter on Monday.

HANOVER 11, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 10 (OT)

The Cavs (11-4) fall in extra time to the top ranked Hanover squad. Alyssa Hill (five goals, three assists), Sabrina Hill (three goals, assist), Paige Mello (goal, assist) and Cailean Roy (goal), led the offensive unit. Addy Dougherty played well in net with eight saves. HB hosts Winnacunnet on Monday.

KERSARGE 16, MILFORD 13

The Spartans (7-7) lose their third straight contest. Kelci Water scored six goals, Bailey Johnson tallied five goals and Naveah Fay added one. Milford hosts Derryfield on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

EXETER 7, NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Panthers finish up the regular season at 10-4 but on a two-match mini-skid. They dropped four of six singles and were swept in doubles, getting wins from Atul Phadke at No. 1, 8-0, and Shrey Shah at No. 4, 9-7.

South will begin tourney play next week.

ALVIRNE 5, MERRIMACK 4

The Broncos wrapped up the season at 3-11, snapping a seven-match losing streak.

Caleb Lambert and Zach Proulx got singles wins and teamed up in doubles, while Joey Allison won his first match of the season and Dylan Burke also got a singles win.

Merrimack ends its season at 4-10.

GIRLS TENNIS

ALVIRNE 7, MERRIMACK 2

The Broncos wind up the regular season at 8-6, snapping a four game losing streak, as they took five of six singles.

Alvirne winners included Kenzie Legg (8-3), Avery Baker (8-5), Emma Coppi (8-2), Marissa Murphy (8-2) and Zailyn O’Leary (8-3).

The Broncos doubles winners were Legg/Coppi (8-3) and Murphy/Liz Rugg (8-0). Merrimack got a singles win at No. 1 by Katie Costa, 8-2, and at No. 1 doubles, Emily Winefield/Jess Harden, 9-7.

Merrimack finishes its season at 3-11. Alvirne will begin Division I tourney play next week.

NASHUA NORTH 9, LONDONDERRY 0

The Titans finish the regular season at 6-8 with their clean sweep of the Lancers.

North winners were Mary Pappas (8-5), Sanya Rane (8-1), Clare Tran (8-4), Caitlyn Mamos (8-1), Patty Rodriguez (8-5) and Brielle Baxter (8-1).

In doubles it was Pappas/Tran (8-3), Rane/Mamos (8-2) and Rodriguez/Grace Desrosier (8-3).

BOYS & GIRLS TRACK

HB GIRLS SECOND, BOYS FIFTH

The Cavs competed in the final regular season meet at ConVal under the lights, with several top performances, with the girls taking second behind winner Keene and the boys fifth.

In the girls meet, Lilly Bouchard swept the 200 and 400, while freshman Quinn Hardy won the 3200. Maia Arther was second in the 100, Brooke Bouchard second in the 1600, and Grace Dow took second in the 300 and 100 hurdles.

Both the girls and the boys 4×400 relay teams got wins, the last event. The girls team consisted of Lilly Bouchard, Ana O’Donnell, Brooke Bouchard and Claire Ballou.

The boys team consisted of Nate McEvoy, Marcus McCammack, Henry Bruneau and Matt McLaughlin.

Sam Bruneau was second and fourth in the 100 and 200; Henry Bruneau and Parer Cheyne went 2-3 in the 400. McCammack was second in the triple jump and Ayden Finnegan third in the 800.
