HS Roundup: Guertin nine, South girls lax win again

Talk about a Manic Monday.

There was local action galore yesterday on the high school front, with the Bishop Guertin baseball team getting a tough win, and the Souhegan nine getting revenge against local rival Hollis Brookline.

The BG boys tennis team continued its winning ways, while Hollis Brookline won another all-local matchup, this time besting Nashua South.

And that’s just scratching the surface, so here’s the Roundup Rundown:

BASEBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 3, KEENE 2

The Cardinals (8-4) squeeze by the Blackbirds on Monday afternoon. Nick Ferrucci got the win pitching one and two-thirds innings of two hit relief striking out four batters. Dominic Monico pitched five and one-third innings allowing one earned run on four hits and struck out seven.

Ryan Haskell (three hits, run, RBI, stolen base) and Isaac Crivac (two hits) led the offense. BG hosts Winnacunnet today.

LONDONDERRY 11, NASHUA SOUTH 5

The Panthers (6-5) lose their second game in a row. Logen Fier had one hit and two RBIs. South hosts Merrimack on Tuesday.

WINNACUNNET 7, NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans fall to 6-5 after a loss on the road. Derek Finlay (hit, run), Joey Deck (hit) and Richie Tavarez (hit, run, RBI) had good performances for the locals. North hosts Manchester Central on Wednesday.

ALVIRNE 14, SALEM 6

Alex Blais had a monster game picking up three hits, home run, five RBIs and two runs for the Broncos (3-9). Alvirne was down 6-2 after four innings, and then their bats came alive. Jameson Krueger pitched four innings giving up six hits, six runs and striking out one. Craig Pederson pitched three innings allowing two hits, zero runs and struck out two in relief.

Alvirne hosts Bedford on May 15.

SOUHEGAN 5, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1

The Sabers (5-5) notch their third straight win, by defeating the Cavs (7-3) on Monday. Souhegan was led offensively by Brayden Hickman (hit, run, three RBIs), Joe Mayo (two hits, run, RBI) and Matt Silk (two hits, run).

Hickman also recorded the win going seven innings allowing five hits, one run and striking out seven.

Gavin Knudsen, Zak Lussier, Alex Razzaboni, Jack Lager and Jonah Winsor all had a hit for HB. Charlie Hale pitched two and two-thirds innings giving up five hits, five runs and striking out two.

Souhegan hosts Sanborn on Tuesday and HB hosts Pelham on Wednesday.

PELHAM 5, MILFORD 3

The Spartans (4-4) comeback falls short in their battle with the Pythons. Bryce Larco had two hits to lead Milford. Landon Bianchi took the loss on the mound. Milford hosts Coe-Brown on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

LONDONDERRY 13, NASHUA SOUTH 3

The Panthers drop to 2-6 after their loss to the Lancers. Jillian Daley and Elizabeth DeRusha each had multiple hits on the day. Catherine Marvin allowed seven hits and eight runs over one inning.

South hosts Nashua North tonight at 7 at Rivier University in the Battle of the Bridge.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 18, SOUHEGAN 1 (5 innings)

The Cavaliers broke the game open with 12 runs in the third inning, thanks to the hitting of Austyn Kump, Emily Tebbetts, Katrina Lee, Olivia Colantuonio (four RBIs on three hits on the day) and Abigail Guay.

Besides Colantuonio, other Cavs having thre hits were Sophia Brickner Lee and Kump. Kailey Disco allowed one run on two hits over five innings, striking out six and walking one.

BOYS LACROSSE

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 17, NASHUA SOUTH 6

Ben Dufoe (six goals) and Noah Taylor (two goals, six assists) help the Cavs (7-4) in their dominant performance against the Panthers (2-10). Tommy Anderson (two goals, two assists), JP Torgersen (two goals, assist), Andrew Torgersen (two goals, assist), Noah Natalino (three goals, assist), Braden Treacy (nine groundballs), Elliot Troddyn (18 face-off wins) and Charlie Dee (six saves) played well for HB.

Beau Dubois scored five goals and Jack Hamblett added one for South. HB hosts Windham on Wednesday and South visits Manchester Memorial on Friday.

ALVIRNE 14, KEENE-MONADNCOCK 4

Jon Santana netted seven goals in the Broncos (4-6) dominant win on the road. Connor Hall added a hat trick. Cole Buckham, Cedrick Bealieau, Garrett Hall and Joey Ribeck all scored one goal apiece. Alvirne hosts Nashua North on Wednesday.

HOPKINTON 13, MILFORD 5

The Spartans fell to 0-8, despite Harris Jones scoring three goals and Chuck Urda adding two goals and two assists. James Brew collected 14 saves in net. Milford hosts Campbell on Wednesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 16, SOUHEGAN 6

Ella Benzekri tallied six goals and two assists to lead the Panthers (8-2) past the Sabers (4-4). Karina O’Donnell (four goals, assist), Morgan Udzanovich (three goals, two assists), Maren Lowell (two goals, assist) and Maddy Matylewski (goal, assist) helped the offensive effort.

Sabers Emma Kennedy (three goals), Lyla Kimball (two goals) and Lyla Hawkes (goal) played well in the loss.

South hosts Derryfield and Souhegan visits Merrimack on Wednesday.

MERRIMACK 16, NASHUA NORTH 4

The Tomahawks (5-4) end their three game losing streak and the Titans (1-9) losing streak sits seven. North’s Summer St. Pierre scored a hat trick and Molly Ducharme added one. Elliott Brown had 13 saves in net.

Merrimack hosts Souhegan and North visits Keene on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 16, ALVIRNE 1

The Cavs (9-2) win their seventh game in a row when they beat the Broncos (0-9). Leading the Cavs were Paige Mello (three goals, assist), Cailean Roy (two goals, three assists), Maddison Caetano (two goals), Isabella Martino (two goals), Samantha Smith (goal, three assists), Elise Broadhurst (goal), Bella Haytayan (goal), Alyssa Hill (goal), Sabrina Hill (goal, assist), Juliette Ogren (goal), Charlotte Petrella (goal), Julia Vella (assist) and Addy Dougherty (four saves).

HB visits Keene on Thursday and Alvirne visits Kingswood on Wednesday.

BISHOP BRADY 13, CAMPBELL 9

The Cougars (1-7) drop their fourth game in a row. Kristina Castellan had a great game scoring seven goals and adding an assist. Campbell visits Milford on Wednesday.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 8, EXETER 1

The Cardinals remain unbeaten (10-0) heading into a key matchup Wednesday at Derryfield.

Singles winners for BG were Nick Xie (8-2), Gavin Bombara (8-5), Will Moynihan (8-4), Sean Cairns (8-5), and Aditya Prasad (8-6).

BG swept doubles with wins by Xie/Bombara (9-8, 8-6), Moynihan/Cairns (9-7) and Prasad Sean Finnegan (8-3).

NASHUA NORTH 6, ALVIRNE 3

Rudra Patel led the Titans, who snapped a four-match skid, with big wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. North also got singles wins from Shikhar Gupta at No. 2, Navein Sribalaharan at No. 5 and Rohan Sehra at No. 6. Sehra teamed up with Jack Desjardins at No. 3 doubles to cap the win.

Alvirne (2-8) will visit Dover on Wednesday while North hosts Merrimack.

NASHUA SOUTH 8, SALEM 1

The Panthers (7-1, seven straight) continued their winning ways, taking the first five singles matches. Winners were Abhinav Avvaru, Atul Phadke, Ansh Khanna and Jason Zhu, all by 8-0 scores, and Mihir Garmella (8-6).

Avvaru/Phadke (8-0), Zhu/Khanna (8-4) and Aiden Sullivan/Aadi Kulkarni (8-1) all won in doubles.

South is at Manchester Central on Wednesday.

SOUHEGAN 9, CONVAL 0

The Sabers snapped a three game skid with a default filled clean sweep.

They won four singles matches: Ryan Fernandez at No. 1, 9-8 (7-5); Philip Dodge at No. 2 (8-1), No. 3 Connor Firmin (8-4) and No.4 Parker Schade (8-1). Fernandez/Dodge (9-8, 7-5) and Firmin Keegan Beatty (8-0) won in doubles.

Now 4-4, Souhegan is at Portsmouth today.

GOFFSTOWN 8, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1

Sam Anthony got HB’s lone point, playing up a spot on the ladder at No. 2 with an 8-5 win.

The Cavs (5-5) visit Goffstown again on Wednesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

ALVIRNE 9, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Broncos return to Division I is going well as they moved to 7-2 with their fifth straight win.

Natalie MacSweeney (8-6), Kenzie Legg (8-4), Avery Baker (8-3), Emma Coppi (8-3), Marissa Murphy (8-3) and Zailya O’Leary (8-6) won in singles.

Doubles winners for the Broncos were MacSweeney/Baker (8-4), Legg/Coppi (8-3) and Murphy/Liz Rugg (8-5).

For 3-6 North, Mary Pappas played well in a close one vs. MacSweeney at No. 1 singles and Brielle Baxter was tough vs. O’Leary at No. 6 singles.

Both teams have big matches today. Alvirne is at unbeaten Bedford while North visits Nashua South in the Battle of the Bridge.

SALEM 7, NASHUA SOUTH 2

Panther winners were Nishi Matta at No. 1 singles (9-7) and Maggie Wagner at No. 2 (8-1). South hosts North today.

MERRIMACK 9, CONCORD 0

The Tomahawks (3-7) enjoyed their best win of the season with singles triumphs by Katie Costa (8-0), Emily Winefield (8-1), Jess Harden (9-8, 7-4 tiebreaker),

Sarah Zebuhr (8-4), Jordan Zebuhr (8-1) and Emily Theriault (8-2).

Costa/Harden (8-3), Winefield/Theriault (9-7) and Lina Ekleib/Avery Sullivan (8-2) all won as well.

Merrimack hosts Bishop Guertin today.

SOUHEGAN 9, CONVAL 0

The Sabers (8-1) cruised, with singles wins by Callie Perrin (8-0), Caroline Drum (8-1), Tylee Jancar (8-1), Mishka Tower (8-0), Tess Jancar 8-0), and Keelin Lewellyn (8-0).

In doubles, Perrin/Tower (8-1), Tylee Jancar/Caroline Drum (8-1) and Megan Sinner/Lewellyn (8-0) completed the sweep. The Sabers visit Hollis Brookline on Wednesday.

GOFFSTOWN 7, HOLLIS BROOKINE 2

The Cavalers fell to 3-6, with just wins by Anuhy Chilakapati (8-5) at No. 2 singles and Chilakapati/Keira Swart at No. 1 doubles (8-1).

HB hopes to get back on track today at Pembroke.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

DOVER 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cardinals (2-5) fall to Dover 18-25, 8-25, 16-25. BG hosts Hollis Brookline on Wednesday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3, TIMBERLANE 0

The Cavs improve to 8-0, after beating the Owls 25-20, 25-18, 25-12. John Sommer had 14 kills and Ethan Norris collected 36 assists.

HB visits Bishop Guertin on Wednesday.

TRACK & FIELD

ALVIRNE BOYS WIN, GIRLS SECOND

The Broncos boys team won and the girls team came in second in their meet against Portsmouth and Dover. Taishaun Jackson (second in 100), Aidan Flaherty (second in 100 hurdles, third 300 hurdles), Jack Zakos (third in 100 hurdles), Joey Marcotte (third in 200, won 300 hurdles, second in long jump), Shane Plumley (won 400) and Nick Marcotte (second in 800).

Also for the Broncos: Brent Dunning (third in 800), Sam Watson (second in 1600), Leo Bunkartas (won 3200), Jacob Plante (second in 3200), Shawn Boudreau (won discuss), Colin Fay (won long jump), Connor Gibson (fourth in shot put), Sameer Murthy (fourth in triple), the team of Jackson, Joey Marcotte, Jaden Taylor and Fay won the 4×100 and the team of Flaherty, Dunning, Plumley and Nick Marcotte won the 4×400.

Leading the girls team were Olivia Rudy (fourth in 100, second in long jump), Petrina Ofori (won 100 hurdles, won high jump), Addie Tobin (third in 300 hurdles), Jenn Hebert (won 400), Brynna Anderson (second in 800), Kloey Zink (second in discus, won shot put), Lisa Amadi (won long jump, third in triple jump), Ella Hartson (third in long jump) and Dani Wimmer (fourth in long jump).
