HS Roundup: A split for BG nines; Alvirne girls tennis wins

Believe it or not, besides the Battle of the Bridge between Nashua North and South, there’s plenty of other local high school action taking place.

Just ask the Bishop Guertin softball team, which got back on track with a win on Friday. Or the Alvirne girls tennis team, which beat the Cardinals. Or the Alvirne boys lacrosse team, which snapped a long losing streak.

Here’s your Friday rundown:

SOFTBALL

BISHOP GUERTIN 17, TRINITY 1

The Cardinals (4-5) end their three game losing skid. Bailey Doyle pitched a complete game allowing two hits, while striking out 13. BG jumped ahead, scoring three runs in the top of the first including a double by sophomore Kennedy FitzSimons and a triple by junior Giavanna Bellino. BG visits Keene on Monday.

BASEBALL

LONDONDERRY 3, BISHOP GUERTIN 2

The Cardinals drop to 6-4 after their loss to the Lancers. Sam Franco allowed two earned runs on three hits. Dominic Monico (double, RBI) and Ryan Haskell (double, run) led the offense.

BG hosts Merrimack today at noon at Holman Stadium.

HANOVER 9, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 6

The Cavs (7-2) fall for only the second time this season as Jack Lager took the loss surrendering seven runs on five hits and striking out two over four innings. Charlie Hale had two hits on the day.

HB visits Souhegan Monday.

SOUHEGAN 2, KINGSWOOD 1

Hayden Goerlich tossed a complete game four-hitter with no earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts as the Sabers improved to 4-5. Drew Reagan had a double, two walks, and two runs scored to lead the offense.

Souhegan hosts HB on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

ALVIRNE 15, HILLSBORO-DEERING 3

The Broncos (3-6) end their six-game losing streak with a dominant win over Hillsboro-Deering. Jon Santana (five goals), Tommy Barrett (goal), Cedrick Beaulieu (two goals, two assists), Ayden Kelly (five saves), Mike Gregoire (two saves) and Joey Ribeck (11 face-off wins) led the locals.

Alvirne visits Keene on Monday.

PORTSMOUTH 15, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 9

The Cavs (6-4) lose their second straight contest when they faced the Clippers. Ben Dufoe (three goals, two assists), Noah Taylor (two goals), Tommy Anderson (goal), JP Torgersen (goal), Andrew Torgersen (goal, assist), Noah Natalino (goal, assist), Braden Treacy (three groundballs) and Charlie Dee (22 saves) led the way in the Cavs win.

HB hosts Nashua South on Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

SOUHEGAN 19, CONCORD 5

Emma Kennedy (assist) netted eight goals to lead the Sabers (4-3) past Concord. Abby Giannetti (six goals, assist), Natalie Heimarck (three goals, assist), Lyla Kimball (two goals), Lyla Hawkes (three assists) and Riley Devine (three assists) added to the offense.

Souhegan hosts Nashua South on Monday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 18, MERRIMACK VALLEY 3

Alyssa Hill (four assists), Sabrina Hill (three assists), Cailean Roy (assist) and Paige Mello (assist) each tallied a hat trick in the Cavs (8-2) win. McKenna Maguire (two goals), Juliette Ogren (two goals), Samantha Smith (goal, assist), Maddison Caetano (goal), Teagan Arbogast (assist) and Addy Dougherty (five saves) added fuel to HB’s fire.

HB hosts Alvirne on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 9, ALVIRNE 0

The Cardinals (9-0) keep their streak going after shutting out the Broncos (2-7). No. 1 Nick Xie (8-2), Will Moynihan (8-2), No. 3 Sean Cairns (8-4), No. 4 Aditya Prasad (8-4), No. 5 Sean Finnegan (8-3) and No. 6 Vince Lazzari (8-6) won in singles action.

No. 1 Moynihan/Cairns (8-5), No. 2 Xie/Lazzari (8-2) and No. 3 Prasad/Finnegan (8-2) won in doubles.

BG hosts Exeter and Alvirne visits Nashua North on Monday.

NASHUA SOUTH 9, CONCORD 0

The Panthers (6-1) sweep Concord on Friday afternoon. Singles winners were No. 1 Abhinav Avvaru (8-0), No. 2 Atul Phadke (8-0), No. 3 Ansh Khanna (8-1), No. 4 Jason Zhu (8-0), No. 5 Shrey Shah (8-0), and No. 6 Mihir Garmella (8-0). No.1 Avvaru/Phadke (8-1), No. 2 Zhu/Khanna (8-3) and No. 3 Aidan Sullivan/Shah (8-5) won in doubles. South visits Salem on Monday.

HANOVER 9, NASHUA NORTH 0

The Titans (2-7) were blanked by defending champion/title contender Hanover and lose their fourth match in a row.

North hosts Alvirne on Monday.

GIRLS TENNIS

ALVIRNE 6, BISHOP GUERTIN 3

The Broncos (6-2) win their fourth straight match and end the Cardinals (4-4) three game win streak on Friday. Winners for Alvirne in singles were No.1 Natalie McSweeney (8-0), No.3 Avery Baker (8-4), No.4 Emma Coppi (8-4) and No.5 Marissa Murphy (8-6); while No.1 McSweeney/Baker (8-6) and No.2 Kenzie Legg/Coppi (8-5) won in doubles.

BG winners were No.2 Jasmine Shattuck (8-5) and No.6 Lydia Miller (8-5) in singles with Jocelyn Kriscivnas/Miller (8-5) winning in doubles. Alvirne hosts Nashua North and BG visits Exeter on Monday.

HANOVER 8, NASHUA NORTH 1

No.1 Mary Pappas (8-2) picked up the only win for the Titans (3-5). North visits Alvirne on Monday.

WINDHAM 5, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3

The Cavs (3-4) lose a tough contest on the road against the Jaguars. Keira Swart (8-2) and Anuhya Chilakapati (8-5) won in singles action. The team of Swart/Chilakapati (8-2) won in doubles. HB visits Goffstown on Monday.
