HS Roundup: No-no for Hui; First win for Alvirne, South tops Pinkerton

If you wanted an eventful day when it came to local high school sports during what’s basically been a quiet week, Friday was your day.

You can pick from a few things: One was Alvirne’s first baseball win of the season, edging Nashua North in what was by all accounts a classic contest.

Or Merrimack softball pitcher Avery Hui’s no-hitter. Want more? How about Nashua South girls lacrosse’s first win over Pinkerton Academy in well over a decade?

Here are all the details of those and more:

BASEBALL

ALVIRNE 2, NASHUA NORTH 1

The Broncos (1-7) pick up their first win of the season in a tight battle with the Titans (5-3). Logan Casey grabbed the win pitching eight innings allowing four hits, one run and struck out five.

Kyle Dufour (hit, run, two stolen bases), Alex Blais (three hits, run, RBI), Devin Smith (hit) and Max Francisco (hit, RBI) led the Alvirne offense. North’s Elias Bourque took the loss allowing eight hits, two runs and striking out eight. Kenny Reel (hit, run), Joey Deck (hit) and Bourque (two hits) played well in the batter’s box.

Alvirne hosts Manchester Memorial and North visits Concord on Monday.

NASHUA SOUTH 15, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 5

The Panthers (4-3) collect their four win in a row after a dominant performance. Kosay Tanaka (three RBIs, two runs, stolen base), Hunter Ward (three RBIs, two runs, two stolen bases) and Nate Mattson (two RBIs, three runs, stolen base) led the way for the locals.

South visits Dover on Monday.

OYSTER RIVER 10, MILFORD 0

The Spartans (2-3) get shut out on the road on Friday. Landon Pierce took the loss giving up three runs on five hits and striking out two in four innings. Milford visits St. Thomas on Monday.

SOFTBALL

MERRIMACK 7, PORTSMOUTH 0

Avery Hui struck out 10 batters in a no-hit performance for the Tomahawks (5-3). Lily Dionne (three hits, two runs), Rachel Flett (double), Julia Hoag (two runs) and Marissa Nelson (two runs) played great offensively. Merrimack visits Timberlane on Tuesday.

EXETER 10, BISHOP GUERTIN 0

The Cardinals (3-4) got shutout on Friday when they visited the Blue Hawks. Avery Zapanas gave up six hits, six walks and struck out two. Kennedy FitzSimons recorded BG’s only hit. The Cardinals defense committed five errors on the day.

BG hosts Londonderry on Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

NASHUA SOUTH 16, PINKERTON 9

Karina O’Donnell netted six goals in the Panthers (5-1) win over the Astros. Ella Benzekri (four goals, three assists), Maren Lowell (two goals, assist), Morgan Udzanovich (two goals, four assists), Maddy Matylewski (goal, assist), Anna Pasquale (goal) and Keira Walsh (four saves) led the box score for South.

Brynn Tefft, Nevaeh Eppolitto, Maizie Barker, Maddie Berthiaume and Audrey Mullaney led the defensive unit.

South hosts Bishop Guertin on Monday at 4 p.m. at Stellos Stadium.

BISHOP GUERTIN 21, EXETER 6

Tess Prunier collected five goals and three assists to help end the Cardinals (3-3) three game losing streak.

Others adding to BG’s offense were Anna Campel (three goals, four assists), Lauren Redfern (three goals, three assists), Abby Dicomes (two goals, three assists), Maddy Hartstock (two goals, two assists), Skylar Naftali (three goals), Kyra O’Connell (two goals) and Mariella Tomasello (goal).

BG hosts Moses Brown on Saturday at Stellos.

BEDFORD 20, NASHUA NORTH 2

The Titans (1-6) lose their fourth consecutive game on Friday when they visited Bedford. Summer St. Pierre scored both of North’s goals. Alex Farrell had one assist and Elliott Brown made 11 saves including her 200th career save. North hosts Exeter on Tuesday.

SOUHEGAN 15, SALEM 5

Lyla Kimball recorded five goals and seven assists in the Sabers win on Friday. Others playing well for the locals were Emma Kennedy (four goals, three assists), Eva Stiles (two goals), Natalie Heimarck (three goals, two assists) and Abby Giannetti (assist).

Souhegan hosts Bedford on Monday.

BOYS LACROSSE

BEDFORD 17, NASHUA NORTH 3

The Titans drop to 3-5 after a decisive loss to the Bulldogs. Jack Peters , Dylan Noble and Austin Kaminaris scored one goal apiece, Alec Jenkerson secured four ground balls and Jace Colon made eight saves.

North visits Exeter on Monday.

PINKERTON 19, NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Panthers sit at 2-7 after their loss to the Astros. Beau Dubois and Tyler Benzekri each scored a goal. South hosts Bishop Guertin on Monday.

MERRIMACK 14, DOVER 5

Kyle Dunn tallied five goals in the Tomahawks (6-1) fourth straight win. Jackson Forbes (four goals, assist), Conor Dunn (three goals, three assists), Ryan Rezendes (two goals, two assists), Max Giles (goal, assist) and Henry Tobin (three assists) added to offensive unit. Nolan Anderson and Mason Tremblay made six and two saves respectively.

Merrimack hosts Pinkerton on Monday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 14, KEENE 1

Ben Dufoe tallied five goals and two assists to lead the Cavs to dominant win. Noah Taylor (three goals, two assists), Tommy Anderson (two goals), JP Torgersen (goal, four assists), Connor Cook (two goals), Ben Petrella (goal, assist), Braden Treacy (five groundballs) and Charlie Dee (three saves) played well for the locals.

HB hosts Souhegan on Tuesday.
